Name: Risto Kalmre Hometown: Tallinn, Estonia (born in Tartu, Estonia) Age: 34 Event: Simple Session
How many years has the Simple Session been running now? Risto: It’s been 17 years in a row now. And we have done over 20 big events. I believe we’re one of the longest-running BMX and skate events in the world now.
When you started it 17 years ago, did you ever think that itwould last this long? Risto: Of course not. I was just a 17-year-old kid. We didn’t have anywhere to ride. So we built our first skatepark in Tartu. That needed an opening event which went really well, so we threw it again the next year and so the tradition and the Simple Session was born. Still, there never was really any business plan in the beginning, it just grew somehow and it’s been a blast all these years. It hasn’t been always easy to keep the show running, though. People who have put on events, know the drill that goes into them. Simple Session is not a big organization like some other big series owned by TV companies, big shoe
In a sport mainly dominated by male athletes, Nikita Ducarroz has risen to great heights not only athletically but professionally as well. Ducarroz has a special skill not only on her bike but when it comes to business as well. Social media has become a very popular way for action sports athletes to promote their careers. Ducarroz has become very talented in this type of promotion. Her Instagram account alone has nearly 20,000 followers. Ducarroz is also setting a great example for BMX riders by becoming an entrepreneur at such an early age.
When she was just 15, Ducarroz started FDV, a company that offered BMX gear and clothing to riders all across the world. Getting started early was a key point for Ducarroz's success in the BMX industry. She had always loved jumping off of things on her bike as a kid, but things really changed when she was 13 and started seeing BMX videos, and being inspired by some of the greatest BMX tricks ever.
Ducarroz is excited to see more competitions and push herself as a rider. Continuing to meet her current sponsors' expectations and seek new sponsors is also a part of Ducarroz's game plan.
