In loving memory of Mike "Boozer" Brown who left us yesterday we re-post the report of the first Boozer Jam at Sheep Hills, California, his home spot. R.I.P. Mike!
The BMX family got together to support Mike Brown at the first (annual?) Boozer Jam at Sheep Hills in Costa Mesa, California. It was awesome to see all the faces there, from former racers like Anthony Reyes, Chris Breen, Alan Foster, to Olympian Mike Day. From industry types to the BMX media. From old school Sheep Hills Locals to all the current hard working diggers. It was also good to see so many young kids riding bikes at Sheep Hills and the pump track and kiddy section got them going all day long. But also the X-Games and Dew Tour champs showed
up in support of SHL Mike Brown who had an unfortunate BMX race accident last year and is paralized from the waiste down. To see the BMX family cheer him up was incredible and also the industry stepped in by sending him care packages, goodies for the raffle or lended material support for the day. When everyone pitches in, you'll get something good out of it, and it looked like all the people were there for the right reason.
Freddy Chulo explained everyone which sections were happening at a time. It was too crowded to ride all the sections at once. Also the little shredders got some time of their own at Sheep Hills. They're the future of BMX and we need to keep them motivated. Vans brought in 50 pizza's and a bunch of drinks and collected donations/tips/contributions for Mike. Over at the S&M set up T-shirts were sold for Boozer and raffle tickets also made some bucks for Boozer to help pay his medical bills. Thanks to everyone for supporting the cause.
Next to the constant riding that was going on, a lot of people were happy to just catch up. With so many BMX-ers who showed up and the sunny day at the trails, good times were had. It was one big reunion while riders like Corey Bohan, Ryan Guettler, TJ Ellis, AJ Anaya, Brandon Dosch, Anthony Napolitan were riding together with the new school guys, little kids and old school dawgs. No "invite only" event here. The vibe was good all around and AJ Anaya kept things fun on the megaphone. The session over the Boozer line with riders riding through the "BMX Tunnel of love" was amazing. It was chaos, but people were having fun.
A few riders went down hard, especially Ryan Guettler who had been the main initiator to get the legendary dirt spot back in shape for the jam. Get well soon buddy.
BMX is awesome. Let's continue to have fun.

Let’s hear it for the rookie! Monster Energy congratulates Jose Torres from Argentina on claiming the bronze medal in BMX Park at X Games Minneapolis 2019 on Saturday. In front of an energetic crowd at U.S. Bank Stadium in downtown Minneapolis, the 24-year-old from Cordoba, Argentina, took home his first X Games medal and became the first rider from Argentina to medal in BMX. Saturday’s BMX action kicked off on the full-featured concrete bowl course with Men’s BMX Park. In the 15-minute finals session featuring the weekend’s top six riders, the recipe for success was going big and stacking as many tricks as possible into flawless runs. Maintaining good flow and speed was also key, as the vast concrete bowl course offered lots of obstacles to cover, including rails, boxes, bowl corners, vert sections, and spine ramps in only 30 seconds per run.
Torres came into the competition as a rookie, having just earned his ticket to Minneapolis in the Boise Road to X Games qualifier in July. Last year, Torres was sidelined from competing at X Games Minneapolis by a wrist injury sustained directly after qualifying. But this year, there was no holding back the 24-year-old.
In the intense final session, Torres covered the entire course in trick-heavy runs featuring downside tailwhip, barspin backflip over the spine, barspin wheelie over the box, double tailwhip into the bank, wall bash barspin, flair barspin, as well as high-flying 360 barspin and frontflip over centerpiece box. The judges rewarded his technical moves and consistency with the bronze medal, which Torres accepted
This year’s summer X Games just ended with a bang! Monster Energy congratulates Mike Varga on taking gold in Dave Mirra’s BMX Park Best Trick at X Games Minneapolis 2019 inside U.S. Bank Stadium on Sunday. In a progression-driven jam session featuring the world’s most gifted BMX freestyle riders, the 22-year-old from Oshawa, Canada, took home the win – and his first career X Games medal – with a never-been-done BMX trick. His teammate, 24-year-old Kevin Peraza from Tucson, Arizona, earned a strong third place finish in the gold medal-only event.
Supported by Monster Energy as the official drink sponsor for the sixth consecutive year, Summer X Games is the pinnacle of progression in modern-day freestyle BMX. After showcasing next-level riding

The legend keeps growing! Monster Energy congratulates Jamie Bestwick on his silver medal in BMX Vert at X Games Minneapolis 2019 on Thursday night. In front of a stoked crowd at the Armory venue in Downtown Minneapolis, the 48-year-old BMX icon from Nottingham, United Kingdom, faced the world’s best BMX riders to bring home the 20th X Games medal of his storied career. After struggling with constant rain interruptions during last year’s BMX Vert event, officials in Minneapolis decided to host the competition in an indoor setting this time around. The Armory music venue, where musical performances by the likes of Diplo and Wu-Tang Clan will unfold this weekend, provided the perfect backdrop for the competitive six-rider final session.
Each rider only had two 30-second runs to post a top score on the massive 14-foot vert ramp, so the pressure meter was in the red zone in Minneapolis on Thursday night. No stranger to heated showdowns, Bestwick came in as a veteran of the sport – actually the oldest athlete across all disciplines at X Games Minneapolis 2019 – and hungry for gold after settling for silver in Minneapolis over the past two years.
Fully healed from last year’s spinal fusion surgery, the most dominant BMX rider in X Games history came in guns blazing with a perfect run on his first attempt: Building speed across the entire length of the deck, Bestwick rolled into a high-flying no-hander, huge alley-oop grizzly air, tall lookback air, Superman down whip, turndown flair traveling across the whole ramp, massive alley-oop 540, extended
