There was no holding back from the competitors in tonight's BMX Big Air final as the riders progressively stepped up the difficulty and height after each run and pushed each other's limits. It all came down to the wire during the final of four runs. Mirra was holding the top position with a score of 94.66 from a no-handed 360 backflip over the 50 foot gap to a lofty, flair whip on the quarterpipe, but was knocked down to second place when Kagy dropped into the ramp for his final run just moments later.

All eyes in the stadium turned to Kagy as he launched off the gap jump into a back flip tail whip and then layed out a boosted flair whip on the quarterpipe, earning a score of 96.00 and clenching the gold medal.

Kagy may have won the gold, but his respect went to Mirra. "Mirra surprised the heck out of me. Good job, Dave. He was motivated to do this the right way and it pushed me."

The highest-flying action in Orange County this week concluded tonight when ASA Entertainment presented the finals of the Big-Air BMX Triples from the Orange County Fair’s Action Sports Arena. Before an audience that overflowed the grandstand onto the infield and bleachers, Brazil’s Diogo Canina performed a virtually flawless run of backflip tailwhips, tailwhips, and a 720 to win the event championship and qualify for the LG Action Sports Championships. Just two nights ago, Canina stood in the same podium position after winning round one and said he would have to ride even harder in the finals because he would be facing some of the best BMX riders in the business. The battle fought tonight involved some of the toughest skirmishes the sport has to offer.

The head-to-head format for the Big Air BMX Triples saw every man performing tricks from an expansive repertoire in order to prevail

The second round of ASA Entertainment’s Big-Air BMX Triples included a “double back flip”, a few “front flips”, a “360° double tail whip”, and several “720°s” on the way to Rob Darden (Greenville, NC), winning preliminary round two and collecting $1000. The night’s top three riders, Darden, Austin Coleman (Los Angeles, Calif.), T.J. Ellis (Moreno Valley, Calif.), performed a variety of tricks that displayed the progression in BMX jumping and shocked the crowd into amazed silence. Man, the Big Air set-up is HUGE! It is placed inside the Home Depot Center and barely fits. Practice was going on today and Anthony Napolitan, Dave Mirra, Steve McCann, Rooftop and Morgan Wade were at it. Respect, respect, respect! Just dropping in would be nuts let alone jumping the big gap. Napolitan has frontflipped the small set, Mirra backflipped the huge set on the right and blasted a big air 

What!? Have the X-Games started already? No, not really. The ASA is putting on an event this week at the Orange County Fair in Costa Mesa and planned it in between the SoulBowl and the X-Games event. With riders in town for these events they were aiming for a good rider and media turn-out. The Big Air Triples are set-up outside this year and starts with a 75 feet high roll-in to two wooden set-ups and ends with a quarterpipe. Each of the obstacles counts for

Yesterday I got a ride from Big Island to the Home Depot Center, one of the venues of the 2008 X-Games. You see, the events are split over 2 locations, the Staples Center and the Home Depot Center and they are not just a walk apart, you need to get in a vehicle to get there and it will still take you 30 minutes to travel between the two if there is no traffic. The hotel at LAX is 20 minutes so it proves once again that you do need a car in America to get around. That's why those damn highways are so full too and you do

Waking up at 6:30am on the Friday morning was not nice and I really wasn't feeling the drive down to Newton Abbot to see the Empire Of Dirt. After a rough start and about 4 hours driving we managed to get to our campsite and made our tent for the night. We then proceeded to drive down the thin little country lanes following the signs to the event getting really excited. As soon as we parked up and looked down at the course from the hill we all immediately woke up and wanted to see the pro riders shred this course. Indeed they did 

BMX weekend 19th and 20 th july, we could enjoy two contests and a saturday night JAM session beetwen these placed here in Sao Paulo Brazil.  Flatland ... on Saturday July, 19th the Auditorium Flatland Show was awesome, giving a classic style and a lot of glamour to the flatlanders, the contest was run in stage theater as a beauty of opera or orquestra concert, in the morning the floor was shown to all the competitors, some of them complained about the little slideness of wood stage, some not, those said it is worth and nice to show their participation at a very well organized contest, unique, and so beautifull place to ride and tricking. the format is one 2:30 run to each, and a final jam session with 13 min. with 6 flatlanders, I, Paulo Charaba, got way to the battle format telling them, the battle was with theirselves, to show what the best they got, and after all the the competitors could enjoy the sessions, only in the finals they could ride together.

It was the tenth anniversary of the SoulBowl event in Huntington Beach and also this year some heavy hitters made it down to the beach. Where it normally takes a bit longer to get riders to go to the event venue, it was no punishment to make it down to the beach. The sun was out and there was plenty to do and to see. HB gets crazy when the US Open comes to town but we enjoyed every minute of it. With loads of people around it meant that the grandstands were full during the BMX contest. With local Grotbags on the Microphone it was going to be a good one. The first place check read $ 10.000,= USD so even though the vibe was pretty chill, there was something on the line. Next to the regular contest checks there were also two side events: The Annual Manual and a High Air comp. $ 1000 for first, $ 600 for second and $ 400 for third in these little competitions which were fun to watch. On top of that they had extra checks available ($ 750) for the best trick during the contest and also a Style award. There was plenty of money around it seemed like which is never a bad thing.

We've been hanging out at the beach for the last few days. Now that's not really very interesting to report about in a normal case but when the Soul Bowl is built up on the sand and a whole lot of pros are invited to shred on the ramp, it's a different story. Add a "BMX Legends" jam and you've got yourself an event that you did not want to miss. The whole BMX contest a part of the US Open of Surfing festival and it's held right down in Huntington Beach. It turns the town upside down with tons of people on the streets and people on the road showing off their exclusive cars and motorcycles. It's almost like a circus but an ultimate weekend if you just want to watch people.

The BMX Legends jam turned out pretty good but could have been better if Mike Dominguez had not been injured, Tony Murray would have shown up in time to ride the bowl and if Eddie Fiola would have stepped on the bike. The riders who put on a hell of a show were Xavier Mendez, Dave Voelker, Brian Blyther and Ron Wilkerson. It went from good to better and the grand finale was insane.
