The Helm Trails in Helmond-Noord have been around for over 15 years. Over the wintertime the locals put in the hard work to make sure when the sun starts popping up, the trails are good to go. As everywhere, maintaining a dirt spot is hard work. It sucks when people don't respect them or when the weather destroys the many hours of hard shoveling. In Helmond we recently had two serious rain storms. It practically destroyed the Flame Trails on the other side of town as the place is public and not covered with plastic. Of course we keep drainage in mind (we're Dutch, and used to a lot of rain and know how to build dykes) but when the town makes national news because people are using their canoe in the flooded streets, even the trails' drainage isn't sufficient.
When Tom v.d. Bogaard mentioned he was going to go to the Helm Trails for a session this afternoon we decided to cruise over. Still injured from a crash two weeks ago at the same trails, I left the riding to Philip this time. Next week I should be back in action. Asa, Daan Melis, Mike v.d. Kerkhof and Max Cleuren were also present and surprisingly the dirt spot was up and running. Lots of water had been removed the day before already and obviously their drainage system was better than the one of the Flame Trails. The middle line got sessioned heavily and even the tarps on the rollercoaster line were removed but that line had a few soft spots still.
Anyway always a pleasure to be at the Helm trails and you can imagine what it treat it is to see Tom

Monster Energy congratulates Larry Edgar on his strong second-place finish in the BMX Street Style event as an extension of the Toyota BMX Triple Challenge in Arlington, Texas, this Saturday. In front of a high-energy crowd at AT&T Stadium, the 26-year-old from Corona, California, put his full aerial mastery on display to claim a podium finish in an elite field of riders.
The special one-off BMX Street competition went down as part of the Pit Party fan festival during this weekend’s Monster Energy Supercross event in the home stadium of the Dallas Cowboys football team. Some of the world’s best BMX riders attacked a one-of-a-kind downhill course stacked with ramps, trailers, jersey barriers, wallrides, and rails.
Professional BMX athlete and Louisiana-native, Broc Raiford is giving new meaning to “riding the floats” during Mardi Gras. The 25-year-old celebrated Carnival season by linking his love for BMX with his hometown roots to build the ultimate BMX park inside a warehouse designed to create and house Mardi Gras floats. “Mardi Gras is something that is so special to New Orleans and to me,” said Broc. “It’s been part of my life for as long as I can remember. It’s a part of who I am.”
Broc’s vision for the park was just as vivid as the warehouse itself. By hand-selecting each of the seven featured floats based on stability, height and design, he was able to weave in elements that both complement his style of riding while highlighting the rich culture of New Orleans.
The 20th-anniversary event of the annual Simple Session contest went down last weekend, February 8 – 9 at the Saku Arena in Tallinn, Estonia. The main contests hosted 159 athletes from 30 countries: 58 in Pro Skateboarding, 13 in Women’s BMX, 51 in Pro BMX Street and 37 in BMX Park. The Qualifications went down on Saturday and Finals on Sunday, with 12 top Qualifiers competing for the medals.
For the first time since 2013, women’s BMX class called Sister Session was brought back. There were 13 competitors from all over the world, a couple of them will be representing their countries at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, where BMX Freestyle will make its debut. A year older and not a bit quieter.... Also in December 2019, the rails, curbs, mini ramp, etc. were dismantled by the approx. 60 riders in the freestyle hall. There was also an innovation this year; for the first time in all these event years, we installed a bunny hop contest from a bank over Christmas packages at the Jam. What the riders really celebrated. For that there are only two words, fun and escalation. It was again a top X-MAS JAM, which we also heard from the feedback from the riders and spectators. Next year, the jam before Christmas, will be 10 years old and then we will let it rip!
The winners of the “X-MAS JAM 2019” are:
1. Zeno Lehmann
2. Adrian Kölz
3. Matthias Hilber
4. Luc Morat
Best Trick: Swar Ismail
Bunnyhop Contest: Alex Eggmann
Rookie of the day: Livio Hugga
