We arrived in China after a long travel via Rome, Italy and HongKong. Alitalia sucked big time as we were only allowed 20 kilograms of luggage on a trip to China. Crossing the border in Shenzen was a mess. Tons of forms to fill in before we could move on. The lines were long and did not move. It was hot, humid and we were sweating our asses off without doing anything. Once at the hotel we were greated with a banner with the Olympic rings on it. What a trip. Before you think we actually made it to Beijing for the Olympics, the intro is a lookback to the trip I made in 1993 to do demos in China with a crew of BMX-ers and skateboarders. Beijing back then was one of the candidates for the 2000 Olympics but they got it in 2008 and it includes BMX racing. The trip to the couch was a lot faster than the trip to China. Jamie Staff: “France won the World Championships in 2006, 2007 and 2008. They were half a second up on us in March we really didn’t have any answers, so this has really got to hurt them. We knew we had more to come and we didn’t ever give up hope. It hasn’t sunk in yet. This means the world to me." "I have had a solid last three years and this last year gave absolutely everything I could and it has paid off. The first round I was pretty happy with the time and then in the second round, Jason got caught up a little bit and I waited for a split second to let him get on because I know they have been panicking all week about getting on and in the final I was like ‘you’re on your own boys -- I’m going! I was very happy with the times. I wanted to get excited when I knew we had won a gold or silver, but we had to try to keep emotions out of it, because there was still a job to do."

Like it or not but the Olympic BMX race is coming up shortly. It is a big push for BMX racing but it has also pushed BMX (freestyle) in one way or an other. People (journalists even) take a 20 inch wheeled BMX bike as a BMX bike and don't see the difference between racing one and doing tricks on one. Turns out that a big newspaper in The Netherlands (NRC Next) put a rider doing a tailwhip on the cover and posted the question: "Why is BMX an Olympic sport?" We think BMX fits well over there and we can't wait to see it kick off. It has been raining quite a bit which shortened training at a "nearby" practice track for some. Even the Olympic track was covered with plastic on Sunday but the racers got to gear up in their new threads and rolled around the track on their fresh bikes. It was good to see Robert de Wilde on the bike as he is recovering from a concussion. Go Holland Go!

You have been riding different bikes over your career, from Webco's to MCS bikes, to Free Agent and now Redline. Is it easy for you to adjust to a new bike or do they make the frame in your personal geometry?
Rob: Yes, I had some different bikes in the past, but normally I adjust easily to a new bike. Because I am a tall person, I ride with an extra long stem. That's actually the only special thing on my bike.
