Baco-a-go-go is coming up shortly. It's happening in Florida this year and the two main man behind it (Freimuth and DeGroot) are ready for it. Are you?
What's the deal with Baco-a-gogo?
Freimuth: Baco-a-go-go is our annual halloween bike comp. We started it at area 51
skatepark in 2000, mainly as a reason for our friends to come visit us to ride bikes and party hard. Since then we've just tried to make it bigger and better every year. We finally decided that Florida was the place to do it because of Chad's amazing new park and the weather is always perfect.
DeGroot: This will be our fifth year doing it. It's more or less a Pro Jam. We set up this format to make it like your riding with all your friends. Then it spawned the best trick and title for the year. Josh Nenza received it last year with a 450 to ice pick on the hitching post. He brought home $1000 cash. The funny thing is that the first one we had. Dave had an idea to put a hitching post on the course. People went ape shit. That is how that obstacle all began. Now we have it at everyone.
Cathy Bluem has been doing reports for us from the Dew tour. Cathy drove up to San Jose and fired back this first report that's about the press conference and first practice session. It might be a week late but Cathy has a good reason for it. And then again, we're beating the BMX mags on this one anyway. Get ready for the Cathy reports.HEy Bart, I hope u got my email about this week its been HELL i had
spanish test on MOnday, a History test on WEd (that I didnt know about
until Monday) and a Communication quiz on Friay...so I didnt have time
to do the reports but im getting em done now...heres the first day...
A long time ago at our local fair, it was possible to win BMX stickers. BMX was a hype at the time but it was strange to be able to win BMX stickers at the local kermis. Focused on BMX, I needed to win those stickers. I forgot what I had to do to get them but it was probably shooting some chalk pipes. Anyway, one of the stickers I won had the text: "Step On It" next to RL or Mike Buff doing a one-hand-one-footer. I think I still have it, somewhere.......
This has got nothing to do with the Orchid Footwear DVD other than the title of it: "Step On It"
With a super crew of riders such as Van Homan, Shawn Arata, Dustin Gunther, Wiz, Berringer, Martinez, Jay Miron, Max Vincent, Robin Fenlon, Adamski and Kevin Porter it is hard to fail a video. Most of the crew went on a 3 week trip to the North-West and flimed the complete thing. It has a bit of a RoadFools feel to it with the riders being on the road, riding new spots and having fun. The actual video is only 25 minutes long but it's full of amazing stuff. Loads of parks, pools and street in this DVD so if that is your cup of tea, this is for you.
Playstation is doing some sort of Trick of the Week contest where BMX-ers are up against skateboarders and FMX-ers at the Dew Action Sports Tour. This time the following riders have been nominated to put the $5 grand in their back pocket: Dave Mirra (like he really needs it but it helps to pay for the wedding), Jamie Bestwick (same goes for him but he could use some pamper money) and Ryan Guettler (he's been winning so much this year, it isn't even funny). Anyway, it's better to keep the check within our sport of BMX than give it to the FMX-ers or the skateboarders. Vote now at:

The Ruff Draft DVD is full of those "BIO riders" that appear on one page with a little interview in the BMX magazines. From Larry Alvarado to Jackson Ratima these are all very talented riders that actually deserve full back-up from a company but since they're too far away from "the scene" they seem to get unnoticed. Steve Croteau and Davy Watson belong to this list too. They're riding new spots that could easily end up on a full page in Dig or RIDE. The filming of Ruff Draft is super and adds a couple of new angles to the whole video. Mike Hoder and Justin Simpson each have good sections. The graphics in Ruff Draft are great and at least you get to know who's riding after every rider gets presented with some type of "introduction". The DVD is a strong street film with new locations be it pools, rails, stairs and banks. It has got some hidden sections and bonus features including game of BIKE between Dossantos and Gonzalez. Chad Shackelford did a good job with Ruff Draft.

On Thursday the top BMX riders from around the world gathered to participate in the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup at the Dew Action Sports Tour. The Toyota Challenge, held last week at the HP Pavilion in San Jose, was the fifth stop on the Dew Action Sports Tour, but the first to include BMX racing. The BMX Supercross was the only event included in the Toyota Challenge that gave spectators the excitement of head to head racing along with the extraordinary spectacle of speed and jumps that is the BMX Supercross format.
Robert was excited when he saw the track on Thursday morning. The steep start ramp and big jumps on the track looked like they were tailored to his powerful and technical riding style. His only concern was the wind. As Robert’s turn to qualify approached the banner at the top of the start ramp was blowing almost completely horizontal in the wind, and he was a little worried that it would slow him down. His time trial run was .39 seconds slower than Mike Day, but strong enough for 2nd overall.
