It's fair to say that BMX has made some progress over the last couple of years. The Supercross races might not be the easiest to set up but it does create some spectacular racing and it's this type of racing that will make it to the Beijing Olympics in 2008. The next UCI Supercross will be held in Salt Lake City together with the Dew Tour stop this weekend. Here are 4 SX movies to get you ready for it:
The UCI is pleased to unveil the BMX track layout for the 3rd round of the 2007 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Salt Lake City, USA. The event will be held together with the AST Dew Tour and the Toyota Challenge at the Energy Solutions Arena, downtown Salt Lake City. Yet another challenging track design has been created by Tom Ritz and the UCI track building crew. The temporary track is build outside the Energy Solutions Arena, together with a full Freestyle Motocross and BMX Dirt course, completely changing the skyline of downtown Salt Lake City.
The National BMX League is proud to announce the hiring of Justin Travis to its Field Staff Department. Justin brings with him a background in marketing and customer service and has been involved with the sport of BMX since 1993. Currently racing on the pro series and having actively raced all of the past 14 years, he has a long resume of establishing and promoting BMX at numerous NBL tracks across the country. Having served on two separate town committees to establish a new tracks and parks trails, he has also spent six busy summers touring the country teaching racing camps
The ABA (American Bicycle Association) is very proud to announce that company owner; Bernard (Bernie) R. Anderson will be recognized along with five other bicycling notables to the U.S. Bicycling Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame induction ceremony is to be held October 20, 2007 at the Hyatt Regency, New Brunswick , New Jersey .
The American Bicycle Association hosted the Black Nationals Nationals this past weekend, August 31 - September 2, in Reno, NV. The summer Reno is always one the top races of the year for the fans. Being an indoor event the climate was great, the Factory Team areas were packed, and the track was great and smooth as glass! The racing at the Black Jack was awesome to say the least.
The first batch of 2008 frames has arrived. The new frames have redesigned dropouts and "S" plate for added rigidity and a cleaner look. The frames are still made with double heat treated 7005 aluminum tubing and the same race proven Staats geometry that has been winning races and championships since 1995. The new sticker design with new colors makes the 2008 absolutely beautiful.
The new colors include; Abyss Blue, Arabian Sand and Anodized Factory Finish in Electric Blue that reduces the frame weight about ½ pound. Sizes now available include: Expert 24", Pro 24", Pro XL 24", Pro XXL 20" More sizes will be arriving soon.
The ABA (American Bicycle Association) has teamed with Major League Baseball’s Texas Rangers to promote the sport of BMX at the Sunday home game, September 9, 2007. The promotion is the final of a five-game promotion that realized the distribution of flyers in multiple locations at the Rangers Stadium. The multiple-event distribution was a hugely successful promotion in cooperation with the Texas Rangers. This introduced tens of thousands of baseball families to the sport of BMX.
The Sunday Texas Rangers game at 2 PM will feature Bubba Harris, the 3-time ABA National #1 Pro racer, throwing out the ceremonial first pitch! Before the pitch is thrown, the crowd will be treated to a short video presentation on the stadium big screen. The action-packed video will introduce thousands to the exciting sport of ABA BMX racing and Bubba Harris!
The 2007 NBL season has been one of the best NBL title chases in history. With a slew of great finishes from multiple riders throughout the season, the NBL title would be decided by the outcome of the main event. Cristian Becerine and Kyle Bennett went into the Grands just 2 points apart and it would come down to which of these two riders finished up better in the main event. 2006 NBL Pro #1 Donny Robinson still had a shot at the title as well, so it was going to be a all out battle for one rider to walk away with the NBL #1 Pro plate. This was by far the most anticipated event of the 2007 NBL season and the Double A Marketing Pros were up for the chance to win a #1 title. Here is how they finished up at the NBL Grands: Kyle Bennett may just be the best Pro rider in BMX right now. After missing the start of the 2007 Season after having major surgery on his knee, Kyle came back in April in a big way, with some impressive results, including a slew of wins.
Union Cycliste International is pleased to announce that for the season 2007/2008, the UCI will introduce and adopt the UCI random start gate for all UCI events including the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup, the 2008 UCI BMX World Championships and the 2008 Olympic Games. After years of development, and a very successful test event held on the Olympic BMX track in Beijing China in early August 2007, the UCI has taken the decision to introduce the random gate system without further delays.
As many of you may already know, Tara Llanes crashed racing at the Jeep King of the Mountain finale in Beaver Creek (Vail area), Colorado. Tara was airlifted to Denver Health Hospital where she underwent 7 hours of surgery to correct massive trauma in her lower back. In addition, Tara also has a C-7 fracture, but was deemed stable prior going into surgery. Tara once again made it through another surgery and is now breathing on her own and able to communicate with friends and family. Unfortunately at this time she has no feeling below her waist, a symptom she suffered as a result of her crash.
