The Vans brand was a longtime sponsor of Stephen Murray throughout his Pro BMX career and they have continued to show love and support for Stephen and the Stay Strong Brand since the tragic accident which left him paralysed back in 2007. His very own “Staying Strong” autobiography also launched at House of Vans in London a few years ago.
Following the success of the first Vans x Stay Strong collaboration, which sold out in just a few hours, the new release is on the same Old Skool model. This time with a monochrome design, bold repeat logos and Stay Strong’s brand motto ‘For Life’ across the heels.
Vans, the original action sports brand began supporting BMX in 1979 becoming the first brand to support the sport. To celebrate this milestone and the unsung impact BMX has had on youth culture ever since, Vans presents an Anniversary Collection for men and women. Featuring a unique assortment of footwear and apparel inspired by the heyday of parking lot ramp demonstrations, neon clad kids and a longstanding form of creative expression.
Vans sticky waffle soles proved to give great pedal grip and became the choice for BMX riders of the late ‘70s. For this honorary collection, a unisex offering of the Sk8-Hi Reissue and Era serve as the foundation for a full head to toe assortment of footwear and apparel. Footwear is constructed with Vans’ classic canvas and suede combination, and each style showcases a graphic Checkerboard printed quarter-panel that is available in three colorways including a share green, white and true navy. Kicking off the exciting programming for the largest action sports festival in the world, the Vans US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach, California, the celebrated Vans Rebel Jam BMX street competition will debut for the first time on American soil July 27-28. Slated for an international roster of BMX medalists and style experts, the Rebel Jam will feature Best Trick contests, creativity awards, a Bunny Hop and High Air comp, and contest honors inclusive of men and women in all award categories. This year’s custom-designed obstacles will be presented by respected BMX brand, Cult.
