Lake BMX Club in Mount Gambier (SA), where the National Championships are being held from April 17 to 22, 2012.
The National Champbikx Series is open to all 14, 15 and 16 aged girls and boys riding the 20” class of BMX with the Probikx Tour attracting Junior Women, Junior Men, Elite Women and Elite Men – many of whom will be racing the Tour to acquire ranking points for Olympic qualification.
BMXA President Barry Knight said he was looking forward to the competition this year as the sport continues to grow as it heads towards its second Olympic games inclusion.
“I’m genuinely excited by the prospect of watching some of our best Australian riders take to the track in what is such an important year for them,” Mr Knight said. “The opening round at Nerang with its UCI classification allows riders to gain valuable points for Olympic qualification as they work towards representing Australia at the London games.”
Nerang will host the only UCI Class 3 event of the Probikx Tour with racing on Friday Jan 6 set to be one of the highlights of the BMX Australia racing calendar. That round serves as an UCI Oceania Ranking opportunity for Australian Olympic hopefuls who will ride on home soil before pursuing other ranking opportunities towards the London Olympics in various locations overseas.
The prize pool for Friday’s racing stands at $11,250 for the Class 3 event and then a further $5,625 for the Class 4, second round of the double header that will be contested on the Saturday.
Bunbury will host Rounds 3 & 4 (Jan 28-29) while Canberra BMX Club will host Rounds 5 & 6 (March 2 and 3) – for Bunbury it will be the second consecutive year of hosting the Champbikx Series and Probikx Tour after playing host in January 2011.
Mr Knight described both the Bunbury and Canberra tracks as challenging but ones that riders will need to ride well on if they wish to win the overall series. “The Champbikx Series and Probikx Tour is a series that will challenge all riders at each of the tracks they visit,” he said. “The series and tour winners will be the riders who can excel on a variety of tracks that all have their own unique differences.
“Bunbury hosted a round in January this year which was well received by those who attended producing a high standard of racing. Canberra BMX club has produced quality events and the location is ideal for riders from New South Wales and Victoria whose states do not host a national round this year.”
Due to the close proximity of the opening rounds to Christmas and New Year holidays, Round 1 & 2 (Nerang) entries will close on Monday December 12, 2011. Riders wishing to compete in Nerang should not hesitate in entering, by doing so they may miss the close of entries. All other closing dates are detailed on their respective entry forms.
