Description: The International Cycling Union (UCI) has given the National Olympic Committees (NOC) confirmation of the number of places each of them has obtained for the BMX events at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. According to criterion 1 (UCI ranking by nation) which was finalized on June 1st 2008, and criterion 2 (2008 UCI BMX World Championships), 17 nations in the Elite Men category and 11 nations in the Elite Women category will be represented at the Beijing Olympic Games.

A total of 45 places have been awarded: 30 Elite Men and 15 Elite Women.

The UCI is very pleased with the universal participation, demonstrated by the qualification of several countries from the American and African continents.

Mike Groff took the title in the BMX park contest this weekend at the Free Flow Tour’s Jackson, N.J. stop, becoming a winner on the Tour’s 2008 season. Groff, 19, won the BMX park competition on Sunday, June 8. “Even though it was ridiculously hot, all of the kids put a lot of effort into the Free Flow Tour competition,” Katie Munn, apparel manager of the Incline Club, said following the weekend’s events. “Everyone put their best foot forward despite the heat. The riding was really impressive, both from the locals and from everyone who came out. With the bands and the giveaways and the riding, the Free Flow Tour really had a positive vibe, and we’re excited to see how our riders compete in the finals.”

The AST Dew Tour, the world’s premier season-long action sports tour, today announced the roster of athletes that are pre-qualified for the 2008 AST Dew Tour. The Panasonic Open kicks off in Baltimore, June 19-22 at Camden Yards Sports Complex. Athletes are pre-qualified based on their rankings at the end of the 2007 AST Dew Tour season. Additionally 3-4 wild cards per discipline have been selected. Athletes who are not pre-qualified may compete as Open Qualifiers at the Panasonic Open to earn a spot in the preliminary rounds.
