Hi, my name is Stephen Murray and i'm a 36 year old former professional BMX Dirt Jumper and father of two boys, Seth and Mason. In June 2007 I suffered a career ending injury at the Baltimore Dew Tour where I crashed on a double backflip and broke my neck leaving me paralysed from the shoulders down. For the last 9 years my life has had more than it's fair share of complications, but I continue to 'stay strong' and firmly believe that one day in the future I will walk again and ride with my two boys.
I moved out to California as an 18 year old with dreams of becoming a professional BMX Dirt Jumper, and managed to not only fulfil that dream but achieve things I could never have imagained possible for a kid from Newcastle. Now 18 years on, the time has come for me to move back home to England with my two sons Seth and Mason.
The last 9 years have been incredibly financialy draining on my
Vans, the original action sports footwear and apparel brand, and the first name in BMX, announces the industry’s most anticipated video of 2016, ILLUSTRATED. ILLUSTRATED marks another astounding milestone for Vans, marking the brand’s first-ever, feature length global BMX video since the company’s inception in 1966. There are only a few times, when you know it is a perfect match! Sergio is one of Europe´s most respected and talented BMX exports. His riding style, personality and attitude speak volumes and makes people - no matter where he shows up, if it´s an event, a jam, or just a local session with friends - feel enriched by simply being with him. TM, Andy Zeiss: "Sergio is a long time friend of mine and to many of the VANS team riders. Furthermore he owns and reflects everything what a BMX rider should be and that's very important to me. We began the relationship at the end of last year with some general product support. Soon as we realised it was a perfect fit I pushed for the next and most logical step. Now I couldn’t be more stoked and proud to have him as a part of the family and representing VANS along with the others from the squad. Sorry, but my team is bad-ass, haha!“
The Spanish based rider has his roots in Madrid, but recently moved north of Barcelona. Traveling is still a huge part of his life,
