The last BMX discipline of the Asian X-Games just took place: Mini Mega. It’s a bit of an awkward name but basically it is a mini version of the Mega ramp that we’ve come to known from the X-Games. With a high roll-in, a gap at height and a huge quarterpipe at the in it’s an intimidating set up. Also the roll-in is pretty steep and not that wide. Add some wind that keeps coming from different directions and you can figure out that climbing on top of that roll-in is one scary thing to do. But BMX has got some daredevils and in Shanghai they found 10 of them.
Jamie Bestwick pulled out last minute but
Jason Phelan stepped in to make the two groups of five riders complete again. Riders had to wear a full face helmet so both Jason and
Ben Snowden had to go hunt for one to be able to compete.
Zafrin Shah was the first rider up. He was more of a gap jumper than a quarterpipe rider but having a guy from Asia in the mix was a good thing.
Coco Zurita was the other rider from group one that did not transfer to the top 5 final heat but went higher than most and
