Out of the 31 riders competing in today's BMX Park prelims, choosing the top nine who will advance to Sunday's Finals has got to be a brutally hard decision for the judges. Everyone that rode went high and pulled a dozen tricks out of their bags. But the really difficult part was the fact that each rider had to pedal as fast as possible to make use of the whole course. Stamina was key. And each of these facets is taken into consideration when placing riders into the finals. Prelims were phenomenal. 
Tonight’s final event was bmx best trick brought to you by Ride Bmx and Dan’s Competition. 10 riders were hand picked by the sponsors to attend and… Here’s the scene—a plywood runway down a double set of stairs projecting riders almost immediately into a 6ft clay lip and over a 15ft gap. The time frame—half an hour jam style format. The prize--$1,000 in cash split up throughout the event for innovative moves. And $5,000 for best trick overall. Here is what went down…

It’s yet another day in Florida when Mother Nature ushered in the rain. But lucky for the Dew Tour BMX Vert Finals, the Amway arena is indoor, nice and spacious with really high ceilings. That's a good thing, because you need high ceilings for Vert, especially when Jamie Bestwick is riding. How high he airs is unreal–plain and simple. But enough about Florida, let's cut to the chase: Jamie Bestwick took first. In doing so, he won the Dew Cup in Vert for the fifth year in a row, and became the first person to sweep all

Banksgiving went down last weekend in Newark Valley, NY where a few hundred riders converged to celebrate the opening of the Nicholas Wilson Memorial Park. The whole community came together to celebrate BMX in memory of Nick Wilson. Props to Nick Marzolino who was the catalyst and John Saxton who built a great park where kids will be able to ride for years to come. Thanks to all the regional riders and everyone who came out to show their support. Amazing day in an amazing community. Stay Gold Newark Valley! 
With Dirt Prelims pushed back due to rain, the Vert prelims initiated competition today at the 2009 PlayStation Pro. Lucky for the riders, the Amway arena is nice and air-conditioned, sheltering against the record-breaking heat outdoors. After a fast paced rotation through two heats, where riders had two runs each, top three places went to Australia’s Tim Wood, East Providence’s Kevin Robinson, and Greenville’s Austin Coleman. Tim Wood’s third place was well deserved, even after his second run was cut short due to landing flat--which pushed his bars “Chicago style” a little too far forward to continue. However, his first run paid the bills, as he used the giant roll-in boost a 900 right out of the gate. He followed this banger with back-to-back flairs, a picture perfect alley-oop turndown, and plenty of switch handed variations, all of which were at a pretty ridiculous height. As if his cache of tricks wasn’t enough candy to the eyes, his completely translucent red set-up made his runs an aesthetic spectacle.
After getting inundated with a typical Florida thunderstorm, dirt dried up enough for qualifiers to begin at 8:45pm under the assistance of some giant floodlights. Humidity was thick, but that didn’t stop a large crowd from attending the festivities. Things got going quick, even quicker for a select few. Coming out at the top of the prelim field were Anthony Napolitan in first, Colton Satterfield in second, and TJ Ellis in third. This had to be a hard decision to be thrown on the judges as each rider pulled two smooth, flawless runs at height.
