LOS ANGELES - August 2006 - For the first time in nine years, the BMX Freestyle Vert medal podium is owned by someone not named Mirra or Bestwick. Chad Kagy edged fellow BMX legends Jamie Bestwick and Simon Tabron to take his first gold in BMX Freestyle Vert. The State College, Pa. BMX superstar electrified the STAPLES Center crowd with a run that topped stiff competition and was punctuated by a flat-spin bar spin flair, the first time the signature trick had been landed in competition.
"All the pieces came together," said
Kagy. "It was the right time and the right place. It definitely puts a huge smile on my face. I rode to the very best of my ability." Kagy's run also included a flat-spin tail whip and a superman seat grab flair. Fans will see more of the 27-year-old at X Games 12, as he will compete later this evening in BMX Freestyle Vert Best Trick and will also compete in BMX Big Air, new to X Games 12.
