The 4th and last round of the 2009 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup will once again be included in the classic Roc d’Azur cycling event. Since 1984 Roc d’Azur has grown to become one of Europe’s largest Mountain Bike event and festival. In 2006, there were more than 14.000 participants taking part in various events. The success of the Roc d’Azur which attracted last year more than 120.000 spectators, is linked to the choice and the variety of the events, bringing together at the same time the world’s best and the amateurs.

The American Bicycle Association and VERSUS are proud to announce an agreement to televise the ABA BMX events and the 2009 UCI Continental events. The ABA and it's production crew have been working on these action packed events and shows for most of this season. The ABA is super excited to bring all the action to the fans and households across the USA. The ABA has been experiencing steady growth in membership and will continue growing and building upon the great success of BMX racing's 2008 Olympic debut. The ABA and VERSUS Network will deliver over 10 hours of programming to an audience of over 56 million homes. With BMX racing emerging as the newest Olympic action sport in 2008, and with the American’s claiming three of the first six BMX Olympic medals ever awarded, the ABA is poised for tremendous growth leading up to the 2012 Olympics in London.

The televised race series will focus on the UCI events to be aired on the following dates: 

At the upcoming BMX Supercross World Cup Finals in Fréjus, the UCI is pleased to host the first annual UCI BMX Awards. To further honor the performances of our top BMX athletes, the UCI will hand out the following awards;

-BEST CRASH OF THE YEAR
-BEST MOVE OF THE YEAR
-COACH OF THE YEAR
-RIDE STYLE AWARD OF THE YEAR
-ROOKIE OF THE YEAR
-RIDER OF THE YEAR

In addition to these special awards, the OVERALL WINNERS of the BMX SUPERCROSS WORLD CUP will also be honored during the ceremony. All nominated athletes (4 in each category) will be officially 

The International Cycling Union (UCI) has agreed to a deal with Interactive Licensing Management Ltd (ILM) to allow it to exclusively represent the rights linked to interactive entertainment for UCI BMX events (in particular the World Championships and BMX Supercross World Cup). The deal concerns all interactive platforms (notably video games) which will feature a large number of the best BMX riders in the world, existing tracks and images – approved – of UCI events.

David Colley, Managing Director of ILM is very pleased with the deal: “We are delighted to be working with the UCI,” he said. “The growing TV coverage of BMX and its recognition by the IOC as an Olympic event shows that it is developing rapidly. This is thanks to the grass roots development and commitment of the UCI. Now is the perfect time for the sport to make its official entry into the interactive arena.”

Johan Lindström, the UCI’s BMX Sports Coordinator added, 

A few of the brands that showed BMX racing bikes at Interbike were MCS, Supercross, Redline, SE, Kuwahara, Haro, Supercross, Intense, Hyper, Diamondback, and FreeAgent. We collected a few pics of the 2010 bikes and some race equipment too from 661, Bell and THE. The 2008 Olympic Games might not have started a crazy BMX racing boom but it sure helped in several ways. After missing out on the World Championships by a mere point, Sunshine Coast’s Joel Clark left nothing to chance at the Queensland BMX State Championships on the Gold Coast. Clark was lucky to be ahead of a fall in the first straight but then had to await a photo finish to determine first and second. Clark was declared winner and local favourite, Steven Janssen had to be satisfied with second. “I’ve been racing states for five years and finally I’ve got one,” said Clark. Two Queensland riders took out the first round of the BMX National Tour on the Gold Coast today. Sunshine Coast rider, Dirk Winter returned to national racing by taking out first round of the National Tour on the Gold Coast. The 19 year old took to the lead after training partner Joel Clark left a gap. “I was pushing it. I gave it everything,” exclaimed Winter. “Overall I’m probably the best under pressure. I use that pressure and it makes me ride better. I put pressure on everybody else and come out on top.”

Winter was a world silver medallist at 14 years of age and admits to having ‘lived and breathed’ BMX. However after recently taking a year and a half off the bike the 19 year old has discovered a renewed enthusiasm for the sport. Second was strong local rider, Steven Janssen from Nerang. Third was Perth rider, Brock Murray.

The elite women’s race came down to the line with local rider,  Cherie Simpson winning after her nearest rival, Jaclyn Wilson-Thompson
