REVIEW OF THE MINI-FATJAM IN APRIL 2012. ALE BLIE!
It was time for the 22nd edition of the Mini-FATJAM, the little brother of the annual FATJAM which has been around for a few more years. The Mini FATJAM is here to kick off the season and it's hard to brag about it, but it's usually sunny when it takes place. The 2012 was no different. Mark Vos wasn't there but he would have rode half naked, everyone else was in a T-shirt, so good.
A radio reporter showed up and asked a couple of questions. Obvously he was amazed by how many people had shown up for yet another edition. What's the secret? For one Aarle-Rixtel has always been a BMX town. There has always been a scene that got transfered to the next generation. The spot at the Valkendijk has been a good help because to create a scene, you need to have a spot to ride. Next to the dirt spot and the Mini Ramp at the Bosscheweg the presence of an up to date BMX shop in town doesn't hurt either. If you want to come over, you can combine a trip to Paul's Boutique, and ride at the same time.
The second round of the 2012 UCI BMX Supercross World Cup series continued in Randaberg, Norway on Saturday with Connor Fields (Henderson, Nev./Chase BMX) winning his third consecutive supercross world cup main. Alise Post (Saint Cloud, Minn./Redline) also earned bronze with Arielle Martin (Spanaway, Wash./Intense BMX) finishing fifth in the women’s final. It came down to the closest photo finish ever in supercross history, but Fields held off the surging Australian Sam Willoughby to earn his third consecutive supercross world cup victory.
“He had a little more gas in the tank than me there at the end,” said Fields. “I felt him coming up down the last straightaway, so I gave it everything I had. He is a competitor and trains really hard and that just means I’ll have to go train even harder.”
David Herman (Wheat Ridge, Colo./Free Agent-Rockstar) and Mike Day (San Diego, Calif./GT Bicycles) finished 10th and 15th respectively after being eliminated in the semi-final round.
Connor Fields (USA) won his third UCI BMX Supercross event in a row in the closest photo finish ever in Supercross history. Sam Willoughby (AUS) and the almost 3000 fans in the Randaberg Arena thought Willoughby had pulled it of. Swiss Timing kept everybody in suspense for a few seconds but the photo finish determined Fields was 0.002 seconds clear of his Australian rival.
Connor Fields (click his name to hear what he had to say) won his third UCI BMX Supercross World Cup event in a row. The rider from Las Vegas claimed victory in the last Supercross World Cup of 2011 in Chula Vista, CA. He also claimed the gold in the 2012 opening
