Mariana Pajon has created history by becoming the first Columbian to ever win a BMX World Championship. Pajon won the elite women's title at the 2011 UCI BMX World Championships held in Copenhagen in early August. The 19 year old from Medallin took hold of the lead at the first corner and powered on to win the rainbow jersey. In a display of strength and power Pajon won every lead up race to become a hot favourite to take out the final.
