This summer marks the first in a new and exciting contest series, unlike any before it. The 2011 MegaRamp Open at Woodward West, taking place on June 9th, is the first event of the inaugural season of the MegaRamp Championship Series. Many of the world's top MegaRamp riders will converge at Woodward West for the first full-sized MegaRamp event of 2011. BMX Athletes confirmed to attend include: Andy Buckworth (AUS) Vince Byron (AUS), Zack Warden (USA) Morgan Wade (USA) and Austin Coleman (USA) to name a few. Judges include BMX star Kevin Robinson.
The event is open to both pros and top ams and spectators are welcome to attend. The contest will be judged during a jam format in which athletes will drop nine stories, jump a 70 ft gap, land at 45mph and then ride the 27 ft high quarter pipe to spin 50 feet in the air. MegaRamp athletes redefine what's possible on a skateboard and a BMX bike.
The MegaRamp Championship Series features four contests taking place on full sized MegaRamp structures. Athletes collect scores based on their results at each stop.
Since seven years the ladies are part of the Masters. This year the startinglists in park and flatland are getting fuller and fuller. So we should be prepared for massive girlpower. After introducing the girls class in 2004, the ladies are traditionally part of the BMX event at the Cologne Jugendpark. Every year the number of participants gets higher and higher, so is the skill level. Last year even Backflips and Flairs were shown by the ladies. Everybody is taken the girls class seriously. It's proven that even famous pros are watching them in the crowd and recognized that their competing level is steady getting better.
This year the highest number of girls have registered for the event. If the amount of registrations keep up this way, there will be a qualification and a final in the girls class.
Besides some German female riders, Angie Marino (USA) one of the best girl riders has already confirmed her participation. Mini Park (3rd place 2010) will come the long way from South Korea to join the masters. Last year she showed a Flair during the Park Contest.
Dirt at the 2011 FISE was held in the dark. A huge crowd surrounded the jumps and were wasted enough by that time to scream and shout. 3 runs each, 2 best runs count. When all was said and done it was Chris Doyle who grabbed first place. Results BMX Pro Dirt. FISE 2011. Montpellier, France.
