Logline: An intimate artful look at a life of an extreme sports professional coming from a small country, his search to find himself within life, within the sport of BMX Freestyle and the hardship that is an integral part that one has to overcome in order to proceed with the craft further.
The past year kept Bert and myself busy filming for a DVD, for an online trick contest and a documentary. Throughout this time there were many goals to achieve and there have been set backs to all the endeavors, but we battled them head on through. Here is something that represents the word perseverance in a sense of even through the tough times, the busy times, through a number set backs, Bert has pushed through and kept creating more.
Filmed with Bert Ribul yesterday for our documentary film and we filmed some riding as well. Decided to make a short edit for my homie. Here is what turned out. Enjoy!
Last year Pavel pre-qualified for the main event at Simple Session (2017) and had so much fun doing it. Unfortunately this time around he couldn't into the contest itself, but found an opportunity to come down as a caster for the Sunday finals day. We have talked online that if he would come around, we would definitely film together and a year later (the now), we got to film together.
What Is In Your Life’s Blueprint? by Dmitri Shushuyev. I tend to listen to a lot of speeches and watch a lot of documentaries and so I wanted to create a mixture of raw elements with an infamous speech "What Is Your Life's Blueprint?" of Martin Luther King, Jr. I wanted to try something different with incorporating foley work / RAW sounds or creating a complete sound design for a short. As I was filming Simple Summer Session 17, I thought to myself why not give it a go here. During the event it was impossible to record any original sounds, because of the loud speakers and commentators on the microphones. However, a work around that was to record sound separately after the event. A friend of mine who rides BMX (Anar-Erik Kütsar) helped out by riding at the local skatepark while I was recording the sounds made.
Beyond perception is the exploration of oneself. The strive towards success clouds our visions at times and we forget the simple of things like love. Love towards other people, love towards the things we enjoy the most in life, but most of all love towards ourselves. We are always worried how we are going to start heading into the right direction and where we are headed. In the wise words of Jim Carrey "You are ready and able to do beautiful things in this world". Never forget this.
