After giving it some serious thought I came to a decision to call it a day racing AA/ Elite in BMX. I have just turned 35 and it's time for a change and some new motivations and challenges. Free Agent / KHS, my family and close friends are fully supporting me on my plans and for 07 I'm going to give 4x Mountainbiking more of a push, something I've always wanted to do without the BMX distraction. The sport of 4x suits more of my age group and it's not as hectic as BMX, so it should suit me fine. Alongside racing MTB for KHS I'm going to be working more on Team management with Free Agent, among other Free Agent/ KHS duties. I feel I have pretty much reached all my goals in BMX and had a great time along the way, and even though I'm not racing I'll still be around as BMX is still in my heart and I'm as passionate about it now as I always have been since the day I began 25 years ago. It will be cool to just be a fan instead of a racer. I'm excited about the future.
Our buddy Franske has left for a Safari. He teamed up with a few mates and drove all the way to a country where the sun shines all day and the temperature is between 40 and 60 degrees centigrade. Plenty of sand too so the 4X4 comes in handy. The guns you ask? they're there to keep the peace. Sniper Frans hasn't forgot to rock 'n roll.
Not too many BMX birthday parties will be going on this week. The only BMX-er who is celebrating his B-day will be Sean Peters. Sean is a flatlander who likes to "Spin it like to hell" as a Czech Republican MC would have described it. Drink one on Sean this week if you will.
What do you do when you've got a week of school holidays and you're bored? You organize a jam at the local ramp. That's exactly what our nephew Timo van Lierop did. He made some flyers, bought a ghetto blaster and met up with his buddies at the local mini ramp in Aarle-Rixtel. The result was a great day of riding all together with the winners getting some candy and some Eastpak/Paul's Boutique goodies. We're pushing Timo to do it again next year. If he does, we'll let you know.
It has been a week but if you did not catch the Dew Tour on TV it was pretty ugly. On live NBC Sports TV Scotty decided to go for his first double flip and ending up sliding across the floor on his face with his teeth sliding next to him. No one know exactly what he was thinking, the adrenaline of the moment just takes over sometimes.. The medical staff actually put his teeth back in his mouth and said they will heal by themselves, the human body is crazy. He also ended up with a few stitches in his chin. Yes, he will be wearing a full face helmet from now on and am guessing a lot of other riders will be doing the same, the level of riding is getting too crazy.
Subrosa has put a killer team trailer together which features the following riders: Ryan Sher, Eli Platt, Hoang Tran and Rich Hirsch. We all love video clips, especially good ones. Click on the following link to check it out:
The top action sports athletes have been traversing the globe for the entire year vying for the opportunity to qualify for the much-coveted invitation to the LG Action Sports World Tour Championships in Dallas, Texas. As the event draws near, the competition and level of riding have become fierce as these world class competitors push the limits of determination not to mention their bodies, driving their sports to the absolute edge. With podium regulars like John Parker and Kevin Robinson competing all year with a bad shoulder the door is left open for lesser known athletes like Mike Mancuso from North Carolina who shocked everyone in the last event by unleashing a perfect tailwhip flair in the middle of his run.
Back to the Nora Cup for the pin-up of today. Told you we had plenty of pics from that evening. We don't want to drag on forever so we are speeding up things. Not one but 4 pin-up photos! Never mind the focus. My focus didn't work at that point either.
