January 12, 2006 - Carlsbad, CA Dave Mirra and Jim Ford, former President and CEO of Haro Bicycle Corporation, announced today that Ford has joined Mirraco. The company was founded by Dave Mirra, BMX freestyle's most accomplished athlete as well as its most recognized personality. Ford will assume the title of President and CEO in addition to becoming a significant shareholder of the California based company.
Mirra's ten plus years with Haro concluded on December 31st. In describing the situation, Mirra had this to say, "I had originally intended to finish my career with Haro, but considering how far apart we were in negotiating a new deal during the last few months, I figured I could do better on my own".
Ironically, after playing key roles in making Haro the dominant brand in the BMX/Freestyle segment of the market, Mirra and Ford's new company will be the industry's newest "rider-owned" brand trying make its mark in the BMX/Freestyle segment of the market.
"It will be a challenge growing a new brand from scratch, but the times I enjoyed the most during my career were when we were the little guys fighting to grow the business. This will be a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to it", stated Ford.
Despite the challenges in getting the company up and running quickly, bikes are expected to be arriving in shops this summer. "There's still a lot of work to do before we can officially start doing business", stated Ford. "We've got to find a warehouse and offices, hire employees, secure financing, and most importantly, design a line of bikes".
