FATBMX 2012 REVIEW: INFACTION BMX INTERVIEW.
Name: Sören Jacobs
Age: 38
Hometown: Hamburg, Germany
Occupation: BMX-Shows, -Contests, -Camps and -Workshops
When did you start with Infaction?Soeren: Back in 2002 Christoph Huber of „UnityBMX.com“ and Marcin Stypolkowski of „KingKongBMX.com „asked me in the old „Mutation“-Office, if I would go to France to start a BMX-Summer-Camp in cooperation with a surfcamp. Because I love to travel and to deal with people I said yes and the project started sucessfully. In 2006 I storaged the old, mobile Dragonfly Jumpbox at my yard and I finished a pedagogycal education. So I had everything I needed to start with infaction.
Were you too involved with BMX to get a “normal” job or what was the reason you started it?Soeren: That's the reason! Before I quit everything else just
to deal with BMX. When I got older I realised that I got to do something to make a living. So it was the best to go on with the things I love most.
Do you believe BMX is bigger now than it has ever been before?Soeren: Yes! BMX got kind of big. Back in the eightees and ninetees there was more like one big BMX-Scene with Flatlanders and Vertriders,…. Now there are so many different scenes with different attitudes. It's still all BMX, but it's more specialized and bigger.
Infaction organises BMX events and do BMX camps. What keeps you most busy out of the two during the year?Soeren: It's balanced between the both. The camps are all over the year, because to book the kids and to talk to the parents makes me busy. The events are coming and going and they often depend on the clients. But there is enough to do, with all the shows and contests on trade-shows or festivals…
As a BMX rider with experience you sometimes forget about the riders that are coming up. What does Infaction do/offer to keep new kids interested in BMX?Soeren: We offer the kids a great time at Top-BMX-Spots with support service. It doesn't matter, if the kid is already a good rider or if he starts riding in the camp. We support the kids on their level. The most important thing is, that everybody got a good time!
Our philosophy is to respect everybody in the skateparks and to support everybody in his personal style.
Who are all working with you at Infaction?Soeren: My wife Izabela and me are in the office and sometimes out on camps and events. We also got a lot of free assistants. For the shows we worked together with Markus Wilke, Felix Kirch, Paddy Gross etc. . In the presence Markus Braumann, Philip Baum, Daniel Tünte, Sergej Geier and many more are our show-riders.
In the camps we work together with experienced riders, who love to deal with BMX-offspring. Just to give you some names, it is for example Makl and Wanja from Siegen, Fionn Kortenbrede, Magga and Zieschla from Bremen and so on…
What’s the next project that you have coming up?Soeren: The next projects are definitely to prepare for the summer camps in Germany and France. After that we arrange once again „The kids are alright“ That is a contest-series for kids and amateurs in the North of Germany.
