we keep it (the DB BMX booth) right next to the other one.
-What new products are you bringing to Las Vegas that people need to check out?
· Our 09 completes, of course.
· A work of art (our “BMX” frame) with another work of art applied to it. Diamondback design / art guy Gene James is using a frame as a canvas to create something he’ll call “Fall Crop”.
-Any special activities going on at the booth during the show? Our bikes will be the only special things in our booth. Nothing else really compares.
-How many people are going to help out in your booth during the show? About 25 (Mike Hammond and I and the sales reps).
-Are you actually taking orders at the show or is it more to show products to the dealers and get contacts? We’ll be there to show and sell. If people just want to check out the line, we’ll gladly show it to them, but few people are able to check it out without immediately writing up an order.
-Are any of your riders coming to Interbike? Nate [Berkheimer] lives in Vegas, so he’ll be there horsing around with his silly custom-made phony badges. Diogo [Canina] doesn’t think he’ll go, but you never know. I don’t believe Darin [Reade] is planning on going. Aside from hanging out with their friends, sponsor shopping is usually a main motivator for riders booking a trip to the show. Since all of our riders are completely happy, most of them don’t go.
-Would you think a contest at Interbike would be a good idea since loads of people (industry/riders/media) are there already? You know, I might suggest an annual open invitation foot down contest, or a kickball tournament, but not another contest.
-What party are you looking forward to? You know Bart; I wouldn’t normally do this, but because I like you guys, I’m going to share a little secret with you that I’ve previously only shared with my closest of friends. Because I’m already at a disadvantage because I have a look about me and a natural demeanor that makes people sometimes believe that I may have “partied” to hardy the night before, this strategy I’m about to tell you about came to be out of necessity. You see, when I travel, I leave many responsibilities behind me and I like to use my time away to catch up on some sleep. What I have found is that if no one sees you out at a party, everyone believes the next morning that you were at a better party the night before having a better time than they did. You save money, you’re well-rested in the AM, and you still come off like you were out having a better time than everyone else! It’s a win, win, win!
-What would make the 2008 edition of Interbike a success for you? If the dealers make the trip to the show (and if they like our bikes as much as we do), if people see Diamondbacks there they didn’t know existed, and if I can sneak in at least a couple good nights of sleep and get out of that town and home without getting sick.
