Description of Role:
The AusCycling BMX FS Pathway Coach is a key development role with a focus on LA 2028 and Brisbane 2032 and will be delivered in partnership with the Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS).
You will be an integral member of the Acceleration & Action team, working closely with the National BMX FS Technical Director to identify, develop, inspire, and support a group of BMX FS riders in the pathway.
Key Role Responsibilities:
The following responsibilities are indicative requirements of the role and are not intended to represent an exhaustive list of all requirements.
Performance Development Coaching
-Overall responsibility for the coaching of BMX FS pathway riders and the implementation of the BMX FS Rider Development and Pathway Plan, with a special emphasis on identifying and developing a female talent team.
-Develop and deliver an overall BMX FS Rider Development Plan, in partnership with National BMX FS Technical Director, aligned to the technical direction of the National BMX FS Program and the National Pathway Plan.
-Ensure training plans, training camps and competitions and rider individual development plans (IPPs) are aligned with the BMX FS Rider Development Plan.
-Produce, coordinate, and embed selection criteria, rider benchmarks and rider profiling in the Rider Development Plan and across the BMX FS talent pathway.
-Develop IPPs for all riders inclusive of development targets, performance objectives and career and personal development goals.
-Monitor and assess the progress of riders utilising performance standards and benchmarking tools where available.
-Lead BMX FS talent teams and individual riders at identified events aligned to the technical direction of the BMX FS program and the Rider Development Plan.
-Develop and maintain positive relationships with a range of key stakeholders including riders, personal coaches, parents, clubs, colleagues, venues, event organisers and all AusCycling Performance Network partners (e.g. SIS/SAS), not limited to QAS.
-Provide coaching support to elite riders when BMX FS Technical Director is not present.
-Continually seek to identify and shape areas of support to maximise chances of success, inclusive of structural, developmental, and strategic.
AusCycling Performance Network - Pathway
-In partnership with the National BMX FS Technical Director work collaboratively with the AusCycling performance network, to identify facilities, partners, and coaches to support the delivery of an integrated approach to pathway activities.
-Exploring rider potential and identifying suitable training environments for development.
-Planning, coordinating, and delivering an agreed number of rider development activities in the pathway per year.
-Organising and delivering targeted talent identification projects / initiatives through social media, camps, and engagements to identify talent and/or transfer talent capable of switching into BMX FS cycling.
-Coordinating and growing BMX FS pathway coach engagement and input through coaching forums and support programs at targeted venues and clubs.
Acceleration and Action Team
-As a member of the Acceleration & Action Team collaboratively contribute to overall planning, strategy, and performance by:
-Supporting the National BMX FS Technical Director and team to ensure the culture, values, and behaviours (on and off bike) of riders and staff is performance focused and aligned with AusCycling performance behaviours.
-Preparing and presenting reports as required by the National BMX FS Technical Director.
-Where required, support the National BMX FS Technical Director and riders at identified activities, training camps and competitions.
-Proactively liaising with coaches and performance staff to ensure effective and positive relationships are maintained and managed.
-Delivering operational effectiveness and efficiencies where appropriate.
-Contributing to prioritisation processes that outline where effort and resource needs to be focused, proactively sharing knowledge and insights to support evidence-based decision making. Committing to aligned communication to pathway riders and staff around all team decisions.
-Sharing resources to achieve team goals and outcomes.
-Engaging in feedback and professional development as led by the National BMX FS Technical Director and Head Coach Acceleration & Action.
Responsibility for resources:
-Physical – responsible for ensuring that resources and tools used to coach and facilitate the BMX FS pathway activities are managed, fit for purpose, and maintained to the necessary safety standards.
Qualifications:
-Relevant degree or equivalent qualification / experience in Coaching, Sports Science, or related field.
-Level 2 AusCycling Performance Coach Accreditation or equivalent
Skills Knowledge and Experience:
-Understanding of performance in BMX FS and standards required for success, gained through experience of as a performer, coach or other role at national or international level.
-Demonstrated involvement in the sport of BMX nationally and internationally.
-In depth understanding of the needs of BMX FS pathway riders both on and off the bike. Experience in inspiring talented riders to perform and supporting them with career choice.
-Demonstrated experience of working in performance pathway programs, devising, and executing plans to identify talent and guide the development of talented riders.
-Excellent social media skills and creative thinker in social media activations.
-Demonstrated ability to analyse BMX FS in relation to its performance needs, and the ability to link development with training science.
-Understanding of how to effectively leverage performance support teams for rider development and progression.
-Strong communication (both verbal and written), negotiation and interpersonal skills.
-Adept at implementing a variety of influencing strategies, to gain commitment from both riders, staff, personal coaches, and key partners.
-Demonstrated commitment, drive, and initiative, with the ability to work independently and interdependently as a productive coach and team member.
-Excellent IT skills for effective communication, reporting, social media and rider performance planning and monitoring.
-Experience in maintaining records to meet organisational requirements
-Awareness of and ability to work in accordance with AusCycling’s policies and procedures.
