everyone would die to have our space."
Do you fancy going to Taiwan to follow up on the development process and to negotiate pricing?
"That's JQ's job - I just get to hype our product."
Who are some of the riders that give good feedback on the products that make your life easier?
"The entire Redline cartel has given us good input the past few years; under Fuzzy's guidance. Sometimes it's hard to get words out of Hucker - but Dosch, Hult and Tyrone definitely tell us how it is. And that has really helped Redline improve our product."
Do you have secret product testers out there or do the team riders take care of that?
"It's all the factory team's jobs."
Big tires, big bars, slammed seats, small gearing and lightweight. What's next?
"That's what we've been asking our riders."
How hard is it to come up with a colour for your products?
"Color and graphics seems pretty easy for our Art Dept. They're on top of it, year after year. It was kind of funny this year; when we saw the new WeThePeople's - there was a lot of simularity with our color choices. I'd say that's a good sign that Redline's doing things right."
Are you scared of the mandatory paint/colour testing or do you not worry about that yet?
"Redline/SBS is on top of that - maybe more so than any other BMX manufacturer. We won't be caught sleeping when the ruling really goes in to effect."
How important is pricepoint for your products?
"Very. Redline's biggest selling bikes are at the entry levels - 1.1's thru 3.2's. The $250 to $300 price range. While anybody can make a bike in that price range - or lower, the biggets challenge for our guys in purchasing and production are keeping it in that range with enough quality parts that a kid has to have it. For 2010, we've added some Macneal pivotal saddles to the mix, which I don't think you'll ever find on a bike in this price range."
Can you explain how hard it is to put an original idea into a final product?
"No. It'd take too long and is pretty boring."
What is a 2010 product you designed that you are most proud of?
"The Device complete is our flagship vessel this year. The bike is incredible. I think Redline has finally, really hit it on the nose with this unit. Fuzz and the team are amazed at the spec, the looks and the ride. It's the complete package."
What's the worst design in BMX at the moment?
"Any GT or Mongoose that's being sold at Wal-Mart."
Why do people need to look into your brand?
"Redline is one of the most recognizable brand names in BMX. We have one of the widest selections of BMX bikes - for both freestyle and racing. It's a bike that kids always have, and always will, ask for by name. And for dealers - since Redline is owned by SBS; we have all of the elements they are looking for - fast shipping, good pay terms, full range of price points, and a in-demand product."
