Ever since the new magazine lay-out of Transworld RIDEBMX magazine I've started liking it again. I can't really tell what it is.

 Maybe the pics just look better, maybe they've got more international articles, maybe the interviews are longer and there are more short articles with bigger pics? The lay-out might have changed or the quality of the ads or the placement of the ads might have changed. Maybe there are less ads and more articles which makes any magazine look better but it will make it harder to survive. Anyway, job well done and here's the usual stolen contents list that tells it just as good as me flipping through the magazine telling you what's in there.

RIDEBMX May 2008:

The covers of BMX WORLD magazine unfolds. You can see the 2008 March/April cover of the 100% race magazine on your right. That's Kyle Bennett getting the holeshot and the cover at the same time. The inside cover is an interesting (and expensive) place to advertise on. With the unfoldable cover it gives Redline three pages on a prime spot.

With only 136 days to go before the Beijing 2008 Olympics, the first Olympic sized BMX track has been built in Australia. Luke Madill from Penrith, west of Sydney had built a replica of the track he is hoping to race on in Beijing in August when the sport is included for the first time as an Olympic sport. Madill is no ordinary BMX rider, currently on the High Performance Squad, and ranked fifth in the world, Madill is hoping that having his own training venue will give him the edge.

It has taken Luke, his father Roger and track builders Brett Barnes and Geoff Cartwright over six months to complete the track which features an 8 metre high start ramp. Madill’s track replicates the track riders will race on at the Beijing Olympics in August. It has the same start ramp height, slope and all of the jumps are identical. This track is half the width but every other feature of the track is the same.

With the support of American Suzuki the race for ABA’s National Number One Titles have become faster, louder and more competitive! In 2008 the 8 National Number One Title races are for more than a number plates and trophies, along with the ABA’s coveted National Number One Cup, in 2008 ABA National Number One Title winners will be awarded Suzuki’s brand new fuel injected RMZ-450’s.

Following the intense race action and some unexpected results at the NBL Gator National, the chase for the NBL War of the Stars Pro series titles is closer than ever. Redline’s Bubba Harris pulled off a comeback win on Day 2 to tighten the Elite Men’s standings led now by Hyper/HP’s Donny Robinson and Raceplace.com’s Stephanie Barragan dominated her main to take over the lead position in Elite women. In Master’s action, Formula’s Tim Dinger clawed his way into 1st overall with a solid 2nd on Day 2 behind Free Agent’s Dale Holmes. Haro’s Logan Collins raced his way into first place overall in Super-Ex with a solid weekend but has Raceplace.com’s Warren McDow with in striking distance.

Elite Men 

On Tuesday, March 18, exactly 2 months after Mike's accident, he was moved from Cedars Sinai to Rancho Los Amigos, a rehabilitation facility in Downey, CA. We were all nervous that he wasn't ready to be moved, but after seeing Rancho and the care the staff are able to provide, we are confident that the right decision was made. This morning Mike had an EKG and CT scan. There was no swelling or fluid, which is great. However, we also told that Mike's eyesight may be damaged, due to the previous brain swelling.

Another week went by. Here's the news if you missed it:

-The X-games rumours started last week and in this week it has become more clear that there will be no more BMX vert at the X-Games this summer in Los Angeles. Having a British winner pobably isn't good for American TV. Sounds like there will be Super Park and Street but ESPN has not officially made an announcement yet. Flatland (International winners) and Dirt (Australian winner) were already dropped from the progam. Looks like Vert will be next. Will the Super Park course be designed so that Venezualan Daniel Dhers can't repeat? American heroes wanted.
