A Red Bull contest wouldn't be a Red Bull contest without a party. The riders had received some alcoholic beveridges in their hotel room and everyone got hooked up with free access to the local clubs. 3 nights in a row. With BMX-ers in town it was about to get wild. We've got some pappazi pics for you from the last day. These pics are actually from the beginning of the night right after the contest. We'll get you the terrible ones at a later stage. Enjoy.

After an incredible final battle between Matthias Dandois from France and Terry Adams from the USA it was Matthias who deserved the win of the third edition of the Voodoo Jam in New Orleans. This only 18 years old guy from France ripped it up during the whole weekend; he is certainly one of the most inspiring riders from the next generation flatlanders, pushing the sport in the right direction. Further highlights were Raphael Chiquet’s amazing back wheel stuff, all performed in short pink pants, Shintaro Misawa his fresh style and Hiroya Morizaki who was pulling some of the most insane links during practice. Voodoo Jam 2007 was the celebration of the BMX flatland lifestyle as promised, with outstanding riding in amateur and pro plus one of the best vibes ever.

Big shout out to Scott Obrien and Terry Adams for making it happen! 

The Red Bull Elevation contest is the best dirt jump contest of the year. A team of professional dirt jump builders spends weeks in Whistler prepping a course that the riders actually enjoy riding. Things looked terrible weather wise. Some outdoor events had already been cancelled earlier in the year and the forecast said rain all weekend. It did rain but it also stopped. The trails could handle the rain drops and qualifying on Saturday might turn out to be the final score if Sunday would be a grey rainy day. Fortunately the sun showed up on Canada day and it gave all finalists the chance to ride the trails one more day.

It was windy though which made things difficult on the last set. Each rider had five runs with the best three scores counting towards an overall score. Jay Miron was at the bottom of the course and interviewed the riders after each run. Paul Roberts was commentation on top. Both did a great job informing the big crowd what BMX is all about.

The 3rd round of Mountain Dews Free Flow tour went down at Ramp Rats park in Petaluma , CA this past weekend. This round consisted only of the park discipline unlike the 2 previous rounds which also held a vert class.

The winner of this round will go on to the finals in Florida to compete against the winners of the other rounds. With the comp being a 3 way tie the winner was decided after a jam format session.

The next round will be held at Mesh skatepark and will return back to California later this month at the last remaining Vans park in Orange County.

Carhartt Europe supports BMX in a big way. They've got a full team of shredders, support contests like the Rebel Jam and advertise on FATBMX and other media. Their latest involvement with BMX is a wethepeople-Carhartt grip. It's a short run of grips so if you want a set, make sure to contact wethepeople or Carhartt and ask which shop carries them. 

The intention was to make a quick upload right after the finals of the 2007 Elevation contest but the party mood took over and it never happened. We will give you a rider by rider rundown in a little bit but until then we've got some photos of the finalists for you and the results. It was an amazing contest (and an amazing party). James Foster won the Best Trick contest with a truckdriver to downside tailwhip. Yup, he also pulled a triple whip in the best trick contest but he also did that trick 2 years ago. Anyway, we'll get back to you at a later stage. For now, enjoy the pics of the finalists and check the results.

Stephen's tracheostomy operation went well and has made him more comfortable. He now has the respirator breathing for him via a tube into his thoat and a feed tube into his stomach rather than everything going into his mouth. This has meant he is able to communicate better and we can understand most of what he is trying to say. Although no sounds comes out when he speaks, we are optimistic that with time and speach therapy, his voice should slowly but hopefully improve.

The doctors and surgeons have said that being so fit and healthy has been a major help to him in both sustaining the shock of the injury and in his ability to recover. 

It’s Canada day today and the sun is out as we’re typing up this blog about the finalists of the Red Bull Elevation contest in beautiful Whistler, Canada, host of the 2010 Winter Olympics. Corey Bohan and Brian Foster rode so well that they are out there doing rain dances. We’ll see if they manage to pull that off. Let’s hope not because with the best dirt jumpers on the planet present and a set of delicious trails available, it can only result in another day of good riding. 

The riders in place 20-28 in qualifying had a feeling they were not going to make it to the finals of the 2007 Red Bull Elevation contest. This is a different story for the riders who placed 13th – 19th. With a bit of luck or a few more pulled tricks, they could have made it. Maybe some should have but this is how the experienced judges (Fuzzy, Osato, Montgomery, Beringer and Barrett) saw it. It’s a trails contest, more than a King of Dirt huck fest. Different lines can be taken transfers are possible if you have the skills to do them.
