In March 2003 Martti Kuoppa and Jorge Gomez met up in Malaga (Spain) to practice flatland together. While taking a lunch break at the beach the very first idea joining together as a company came up. And the most obvious name for the company was "Kuoppa Gomez bikes", KGB. Within 2 minutes both, Kuoppa and Gomez made the decision about founding KGB and to leave their current bike sponsors. Now, two years later, we checked in with Viki and Martti on the developments of the KGB brand.
Some time has passed since you started KGB, what products have you been able to put on the market and sell to the KGB fans?
Having your own place to ride is sweet but it's easier said than done to get your local park. The core builders of The Promise park know all about it. It was work, work and more work for months. 2 divorces and 1 broken relationship later they have their own spot to ride. Learn more about the park with Max Laisina:
Jim Cielencki left KinkBMX and started a BMX/Skate shop called Sunday. Now Jim has started a bike company called Sunday so we had to fire off some questions to learn more about it all.
FATBMX: You recently started a BMX/skate shop. Was it always a dream to have your own shop?Jim Cielencki: Well, my partner J.P. and I have been talking about doing a shop for almost 8 years now, so I guess it was a dream. I have always hated going to shops where you couldn't find exactly what you wanted, the people were not riders and they were trying to nickel and dime you for the products. We all want instant gratification, so it is the best to be able to go and get a new video when you are bored. So yeah it was a dream, it is great and my video collection is getting bigger.

Founded in 1998 by Steev Inge, Mutiny Bikes was about change. Our vision has always been to make high quality, innovative bikes available at reasonable prices. After years of living in Hamburg and doing Mutation clothing with Christophe Huber, Marcin Stypulkowski moved to Warsaw and started KINGKONGBMX. Read more about the reasons why and what he has planned with his new brand. What was the reason to give up on Mutation?
The reason was that Christoph and me had some differences. To continue our personal progression we had to finish Mutation so we split in good condition. I think we both needed a timeout of work to concentrate on ourselves.
We all want BMX bikes in the parks worldwide and people are working on this to make it happen. This is one for Park Owners and Councils to respond to. Please read Australia's Mike Daly's text first and then fill in the Survey. Only serious people need apply.
I think its important for BMX that we get as many official BMX friendly responses to this park survey as possible as Portland is one of the main sources of anti BMX feeling in the US (and the world!) This problem of BMX vs Skate is starting to spread, we are hearing more complaints from skaters in Australia due to the problems in the USA. If you could forward the survey form to any councils or park owners that you work with, I think it would be great to get as much positive feedback to these guys as possible.
If we can get Portland to allow BMX at all public parks, I believe that the
rest of the states in the USA will follow and we will be able to forget this
stupid BMX access problem forever, I know I have spent way too many hours of my life putting up arguments for BMX access to skateparks.
We ran into Robbie Morales at the Bike Show in England and decided to have a chat with him to see how his FIT BIKE CO is doing these days. We sat down, had a diet Coke and got the Sony IC Recorder going.
When you started your company in 2000 it came as a big surprise. You had left the T1 squad and started your own thing. Looking back 5 years later, has it worked out the way you thought it would?
Rob-O: In 2000 coming off of T1 I was really excited, basically to get more products made because that was our main problem at T1, we couldn't get our products made, and then seeing them made on a more consistent level was exciting, you know and obviously S&M has helped me with that. As the company has grown I've been able to help the
