Radical Rick is more than just a comic book character, he is a renegade BMX icon that attacked any challenge put in front of him and made lifelong fans out of every rider and every critic along the way. We sat down with Radical Rick creator, Damian Fulton, to see how the raddist rider came to be why he was so good at making us want to go out and shred BMX with our friends.
It's not every day we come across good art for the FATBMX 'Comic 'n Art' section but when we came across the illustrations of Mark Ward, we had to share a few of them with you. Obviously Mark knows his stuff and the number of BMX drawings that he has finished shows that. We have made a selection of his artwork for you to enjoy here including the Condor, DMC, The Whopper, The Surfer, The Fastplant, Hill tuck, Funky Chicken and some race ones of the GBR Olympians who did well in Tokyo this past summer.
After you're done, make sure to look him up on Instagram because there's more:
Here's an idea for you as witnessed in Beek en Donk today. Members of the youth council brought up the idea to put some life in their spini miniramp. The idea was born to find creative people in town and decorate the sides of the ramp together. Local artist Els Coenen was commissioned to lead the project and the result was revealed today with the presence of the mayor of Laarbeek. Sport and Culture go hand in hand in Urban sports and Ramps are a great location for the two to meet up and do their thing. Graffiti of course is an other way for the two to meet up and potentially the other two ramps of Laarbeek will see some colour in the future.
Who will take on a similar project for your local ramp?
Taj Mihelich just finished a book of cartoons called Back Before They Invented Open Face Helmets. It is a collection of work from the last few years and a handful of new things. There is a lot of bicycle humor and he wrote a few essays. The book is 164 pages which you can order from Taj directly.
From the back cover: This book is 164 pages of my cartoons and doodles. There is a bunch of bicycle comics (including a number from Sunday Comics with Taj series on Pinkbike), lots of low-brow humor, dad jokes, questionable puns, and some things that are probably only funny to me. There's a few things I'm actually serious about, but hopefully you can't tell, and even a few essays. I call it a collection of not-too-artsy-fartsy work I've done over the last few years (though, there are a few fart jokes).
