The qualifying round, originally scheduled for Friday, had to be bumped to Saturday morning due to the strong gusts present during qualifying. The riders successfully completed one run before the session was officially ended. The top riders from that round – led by Adam Aloise and Drew Bezanson, joined the group of 21 pre-selected riders in a two-run final competition. Riders threw it all on the line, not knowing how long the skies would allow them to go.
There were plenty of heavy hitters throwing-down, including AST Dirt Champion Ryan Nyquist, who laid out his signature 720’s over the course and the teenage phenomenon Dennis Enarson who wowed the judges by throwing a triple pendulum can-can into his run. Ultimately, it was Dosch who overtook the field, highlighted by his 360 double tailwhip and an opposite 360 Lookback. Chris Doyle took second place with his big 360 inverts and Mike “Hucker” Clark came in third, throwing down a front flip and a truckdriver to x-up.
The top 10 riders from the Final moved on to a best trick jam session. TJ Ellis gave Dosch a run for his money with a frontflip tailwhip, but again it was Dosch who came out on top with an amazing tailwhip transfer. For his extra effort, he wins a year’s worth of Chipotle meals – a prize he is sure to get good use out of since he said, “Dude, I go there like four times a week!”
A very excited Dosch summarized, “The contest was super awesome. The jumps were really cool with a unique design. I liked the wallride at the end. It was difficult, the wind played a big factor, but all the riders know that and had to deal with it out there. But my favorite part of the contest was that it was more laid back, not as stressful as some of the big tours. I think everybody had a good time!”
Mike “Hucker” Clark, who led the field after his first run and ended up in 3rd, also had a “sunshiney” perspective on the day, “Red Bull contests are always the best contests there are. The transfers lines were good, Fuzzy and the guys did a great job building the course. Everyone had a great time, and I’m smiling.”
