As the only gold medalist in BMX Freestyle Street history, it was a three-peat for Garrett Reynolds as he dominated the course in today's final. Dennis Enarson took his second silver of X Games 16.
"It feels really good to get the gold again," said
Reynolds.
"My goal was to go out and have fun so there was no pressure to win three." As he went into his last run,
Reynolds already had claimed the gold but his near-perfect performance gave him a higher score and the crowd an exciting show. The final featured an array of technical tricks, including Reynolds' Smith up to 180 barspin down, 540 to fakie and 360 to double bars. During
Enarson's first run, he blew out his back tire attempting the 540 over the diving board then came back to drill it, garnering the number two spot.
"I thought I was going to miss my next run after getting the flat," Enarson said.
"But when I went to get a drink of water, I turned around and the new tire was on. I didn't think I would be in
the finals yesterday so I am psyched to take second." The intricate course design was a favorite for all the riders. Enarson said,
"The broken teacup was an epic spot. If I ever found that on the street, we would ride it for three days until we were done with it." Brian Kachinsky nollied to nose ring his way to the bronze, which is his first X Games medal.
It's pretty surreal to be selected to come to the X Games," said
Kachinsky.
"To win the bronze, it's an honor."
