Over the weekend the first Extreme Playgrounds comp took place in Duisburg, Germany. They're in their 5th year with this series which is a good sign, because we've seen big plants of these Extreme Sports festivals and they usually don't make it further than a first shitty attempt. But not at the Telekom Playgrounds as they've got things dialled and keep on delivering events that you can advise people to check out. The dirt event had Pennywise on stage so how's that for a day out, seeing dirt jumping by the top dawgs and see PW live on stage in between the runs.
Once again 14 riders were invited or had qualified for the dirt event. The head to head system sent 7 riders home after each had taken 2 runs on the 8-pack where the best score counted. You only had one extra run in case you messed up the first time, or you had an extra go to make your first run better and beat your opponent. The brackets that were drawn the night before were interesting and some of the transfers were too.

2010 Dew Tour Dirt winner
Brandon Dosch did not make it to the next round for instance as he was beat by local
Janek Wentzky. It was over for
Ryan Guettler too early in the day as
Patrick Guimez pulled it together and beat the former Dew Tour Dirt champ. Also
Brett Banasiewicz had to dig out some good moves for his last run as he was tied with
Sergio Layos going into his last run in round one. Maddog scored a 90,20 which was good enough to beat Sergio's 88,60. Other riders that got stuck in round one were
Daniel Wedemeijer, Markus Hampl, Simon Moratz, and
Jan Mihaly but Jan got voted back in the game through the SMS voting process.
The final 8 went head to head again and that was the

end for
Ben Wallace, Ben Hennon, Patrick Guimez and
Jan Mihaly who could not beat
Maddog in his first big comp.
JB Peytavit tricked his way to this round to the finals where he met up with
Anthony Napolitan, Janek Wentzky and
Maddog.
It was on in the finals. If you would have had to write an exciting script, it would look like it turned out to be. Three runs each in the finals and riders beat eachothers' scores again and again. It was
Anthony Napolitan who put it together in the finals and grabbed the biggest check of the $ 20,000 USD pro purse. Nice one!
Next up is the Miniramp comp in Hamburg. Stay tuned for info here at FATBMX.
