Sixteen competitors converging on Portland, Oregon for the BMX Finals in conjunction with the Dew Tour’s Portland Invitational. The ten different park contestants and seven dirt riders rode on the Dew Tour courses last weekend, and were fighting for their chance at a professional debut at the Dew Tour Championships. The day was dominated by the Australians, with both contests naming an Aussie Champion.
Luke Parker took the win in dirt and
Brandon Loupos earned the first place finish in park, securing their prequalified spot to flow to pro at the Dew Tour Championships in Las Vegas, Nev.
The dirt riders earned their spots in the Finals during three events held across the country, with the top three finishers from each advancing to Portland. The Tour Finals saw an influx of new faces, returning Finalists, crossover competitors and a traveling group of Aussies. Taking the win was sixteen-year-old
Parker with his final run starting off with a tailwhip to drop in, a bar spin to top no-hander, a double tail whip
and a front flip. Runner up went to crossover competitor and fellow Australian
Luke Bowerman, 17, and taking third was returning Finalist eighteen-year-old
Larry Edgar from Carona, Calif.
”It’s amazing to get recognized for what I’m doing and what I came to do over here,” said new Champion
Parker.
“Thanks to Gatorade for the great hospitality. I’m going to ride as hard as I can in Las Vegas.”
The park Finals ended the day with ten contestants fighting for their shot to make their “flow to pro” dreams come true. Eighteen-year-old
Loupos took the win with tricks including a triple-tailwhip on the driveway, flairwhip, flip to fakie, and a tuck down the stepdown. Yet another Australian, seventeen-year-old
Logan Martin, came in a close second and rounding out the podium was sixteen-year-old
Allen Adams from Eaton Rapids, Mich.
With the win, Loupos and Parker advance to their prequalified spots at the Dew Tour Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. October 13-16 to compete with the pros and potentially earn their pro status themselves. The Gatorade Free Flow Tour will be holding the skate Finals next month in conjunction with the Dew Tour’s Toyota Challenge September 8-11 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Two Champions will complete the list and compete in Las Vegas, Nev. for their respective disciplines.
