While wandering around at the pits of the Supercross in Anaheim I stumbled across a set up that I had not seen in a while. The GT/Schwinn team had set up camp to do bicycle stunt shows with the 9 feet tall transportable quarterpipe and a box jump. I have done plenty of these shows in the past with GT but I have to admit that I don't miss them one bit.
It's a good thing to show BMX to a new audience but to me it feels like the sport has moved on.
The Schwinn crew had 5 riders. 2 flatland guys and three ramp riders plus an announcer. To tell you the truth, I did not wait until the show began and walked off. It seems like nothing has changed with these shows since the BMX Action trick team with Mike Buff and RL Osborn and Scott Breithaupt on the mic.
Later on that day in the stands I ran into Danny Hubbard. He told me he's running 4 BMX stunt teams. Good for him.
I'm not saying these trick riding shows are bad but I'm over them.
