Unlucky in Manchester 2 weeks ago. Now in Argentina for the 2nd World Cup and a knee surgery is coming up soon… The 1st UCI World Cup (Supercross) race in Manchester didn’t start too good due to illness. I flew in right before practice and didn’t feel too good, but tried to make the best of it. My first heat race went terrible because I crashed in the first turn. I was able to win my 2nd race, but I had a bad start in heat 3, so I was not up front. On the 2nd straight I wanted to make a move to pass some guys, but that didn’t work out because the guy in front of me made a mistake and I went off the track. Game over for and very unhappy feelings for me!
The last 2 weeks I’m starting to feel a little better, but I still have some stress that has nothing to do with bmx, just life... Something else that’s really important: Since our training camp in February this year I got some issues with my left knee and it starts to border me more and more the last few weeks. Together with my coach and doctor I decided to do an mri scan. The result is I broke the inside of my meniscus. That means I need a small surgery soon… They probably will cut away some meniscus and clean up the rest inside. Hopefully I can ride the bmx track in 2 weeks, but that depends on what the doctors see when they are inside my knee.
2 days ago I had a 14hr flight from Amsterdam to Buenos Aires, Argentina with the rest of the Dutch Team. We stayed in a hotel for one night and flew to Tucumán today. From there we had to drive 2hrs to Santiago del Estero, Argentina for round 2 of the UCI World Cup (Supercross) series. On Thursday we have our first practice on the track. Friday more practice and time-trials. Saturday 30min warm-up before the race starts. You can watch the time-trial finals and the race live on: bmxlive.tv I’m looking forward to hit the track!
