The skaters have the indoor section all to themselves while outside it's all bmx: Jump box , quarters all over , rails , vert wall , bowled corners and a spine.
The comp kicked off with the Am's and a few bails. Believe it or not the only obligatory front flip over the box came from this class with the rider being moved up into the pro class. It was all in a jam format so made for good spectating as well as good riding. After a small practice the pro class was allowed to chip up the place. I didn't catch his name , but we were wearing the exact same shoes: he did a huge wallride that went from quarter , over entrance stairs to the course , to wall ride on an slanted sub , back into vert wall. He had brunch with the floor twice but was determined to pull it.
Fringe clothing / Revenge Industries Joel Hulsey pulled dozens of flip variations over the box as well as a stylish can whip. He is a small guy but was going big , wall tapping the no-smoking sign way up there on the side of the skate park wall in practice. Alfredo Mancuso was also dominating the box with loads of whip variations and was blasting all over. Kevin Kiraly was smooth as usual and pulled a 540 truck driver of a quarter , the double whip over the box and barspin to footjam on a hitching post.
The $1000 first place prize money went to his fellow Redline rider Paul Bonner. Bonner was great to watch because he does not run a drivetrain at all and relies solely on pumping to keep himself going. He had the crowd going wild when 180'ed out of the bike park , over the fence and into the skate park. He is a high energy rider and had lines all over the park along with clicked tables, icepicks on the biggest quarters , huge transfers and good fun to watch.
Pretty much every rider I spoke to afterward told me that out of all the comps they had done , they had the most fun at this one. There was a party after the comp which we could not make it to because we still had a few hours left to drive home and I turn into a pumpkin at midnight. Thanks to the hot girl who gave me the flyer though - next time I will make plans to stick around.
If you are ever in the area be sure to drop by this rider run park and do some skids.
