Brabant was sunshine city again. 19 degrees and clear blue sky all day. The black sand was in perfect form and the PA, banners, flags and tents made it look like there was something going on. With the promotional efforts of making posters, informing the local weekly newspapers, local websites and the BMX community, enough people made it to the Valkendijk for a dirt session or just to watch people crash all day. Team Asten came over two days in a row and used the opportunity to collect autographs for a similar spot in their hometown. The boys are getting real good and started doing seatgrabs, cancans and nacnacs over the first tabletop. It was good to have Gerrit Koornwinder on the bike. One of Holland's first freestyle BMX riders (in his late 30-s now) had a good time jumping with kids 1/3rd his age. Dave to the Rescue made it over again as did "ramp rider" Ricardo Moes and Daniel. Yup, Daniel was on hand and probably rode dirt for the first time in his life and managed to do 360 X-ups over the first table and tailwhips wherever he wanted. Beware, Daniel is going to build his own trails in his own yard as he liked the dirt(y) experience at the SugarHills. The "Stort-trails" locals from Den Dungen were in da hizouse all weekend and Hellimond Mike got "de kriebels" riding his FlyBike. Govert Schonewille brought his son and both of them rode on self-made bikes. How cool is that, standing on the starting hill at the trails with your son, both on BMX bikes. Give me a couple of years...... The "Eastpak High-Air" contest started off with 15 riders and narrowed down quick. At the end it was Jan Willem Koppenens and Randy Nieuwkerk battling for the first prize. JW has only been riding BMX for 18 months and is a very skilled MX rider (at age 15). Not afraid to go big so to say. He cleared 1,85 meter of a rather shitty dirt table top jump. Randy topped that going 195 centimeters. With the clock moved forward one hour we've got an extra hour of daylight at the end of the day. We'll use that to come back to the trails to build them up and ride some more. Thanks to everyone for the cool session. See you soon. BDJ
