San Jose Day 5 was pretty much a slow day, all that was occurring was BMX Park Finals, which although is a big event, most of the athletes were pretty beat up from riding hard for 4 previous days straight. I too, was exhausted because this was just a tiring week so I didn't really get a good report at the event of what happened in BMX Park finals, but once again thanks to my friend Alex and good ol TiVi have no fear, we have a complete report for ya still.
Park finals would go down at 1pm inside the HP Pavilion and you could pretty much tell the riders were throwing everything they had into the park runs but their bodies were just not there.
Rob Darden started things off with a Turndown, Double Tailwhip, Wall Ride, Fakie up the step-up, Turndown, 360 X-Up over the box, Double Truckdriver up the step-up, 360 X-Up over the spine, Tailtap to Barspin over spine, Icepick to earn a score of 84.00. Mike Laird came next with a Tailwhip, Turndown, Double Tailwhip, Tailtap, Flare, Barspin over the box, Wall Ride, 360 Tailwhip over spine, Tailtap, Barspin to Tailtap, Nosepick on spine, Icepick, Icepick, Nosepick to earn a score of 85.75. Ali Whitton came next with a Superman over the box, Wall Ride, Backflip up the step-up, 540, Downside Decade over the box, Tailtap, Manual, Tailtap, HUGE Foot-plant, Double Tailwhip ((attempt)), ** fell...bike was a bit under rotated ** to earn a score of 82.25. Ryan Guettler's first run was a 360, 720, Tailwhip up the step-up, Turndown, Flare, Tailwhip over the box, Barspin to the step-up, Double Tailwhip, Wall Ride, 540, Manual over the box, 360 over spine, Flare ((attempt)) ** fell ** to earn a score of 86.25. Dave Mirra's run was a Flare, Barspin to Tailtap, X-Up, One-Footed X-Up Backflip over the hip, Barspin, Foot-Plant, 360, Flare, Tailwhip over the hip, Tailtap, 360 over box, Wall Ride, Tailwhip Backflip to earn a score of 92.25. Scotty Cranmer's run was a 360,Tailwhip, Icepick, Front Flip up the step-up, Barspin, 360, Double Tailwhip over box, Tailtap, 360 Tailwhip, X-Up, Flare, X-Up, 360 X-Up, Foot-Plant, Turndown, Tailtap, score of 90.50.
Run 2 began with Ryan Nyquist pulling a Double Barspin Backflip, Tailtap, 360 Barspin, Manual, Double Truckdriver (( fell coming out of it, got back up quickly to finish his run)), Backflip, Tailtap, ** Back tire was flat...called for timeout...not an option...tried different bike...gave up...stopped run ** and earned a score of 81.50. Dave Dillewaard's second run was a Barspin to Manual, Barspin, No-Footed Can-Can, No-Hander, Manual, 540, 360 Tailwhip, Manual, Table, 360, Tailwhip, Manual, Wall Ride, Tailwhip to Tailtap to earn a score of 83.00. Tom Haugen's second run was a 360 Tailwhip over spine, Barspin, Barspin to Manual, Tailwhip, Tailwhip,360 Tailwhip over box, Manual, No-Handed 360 over spine, 360 Tailtap on hip, Tailwhip to Fakie over spine, ** couldn't land clean...fell out of it...got up quickly to finish run **, Nosepick to Barspin, score of 86.25. Mirra's second run was a One-Footed Barspin Flare, Barspin to Tailtap **stumbled out of landing...up quickly **, Tailtap on spine, Manual, Tailwhip Flare, Tailtap, Wall Ride, Backflip-Tailwhip over spine, ** stumbled out of landing...up...out of time ** to earn a score of 83.75. Rounding out Run 2 was Cranmer with a Switch-footed roll-in to Backflip over box, Tailwhip, Flare, Icepick, Front Flip up step-up, Barspin, 360, Double Tailwhip over box, Tailtap, 360 Tailwhip over spine, X-Up, Flare, X-Up, Tailtap to Tailwhip, Nosepick, Foot-Plant to earn a score of 90.50.
When it was all said and done the results from 10th to 1st are: Whitton (84.00), Harrington (84.75), Darden (85.25), Dilllewaard (86.00), Laird (86.00), Guettler (86.25), Haugen (87.75), Nyquist (89.75), Cranmer (90.50) and Mirra (92.25).
After the finals, although there was Skateboard Park still to come, most were just completely wiped out, so we all just went back to the hotel, ate some dinner and headed back on home.
