The first race of the Open Dutch MX Championships took place in Gemert. A lot of work was done to the track to make the event happen. It had snowed a lot and the below zero temperatures of the past week turned the track into a hard-pack track instead of a loose sand circuit. It was weird, it looked more like a superretard race than an MX race but the conditions were the same for everyone. Rob van Vijfeijken got the holeshot in moto 1 of the MX2. His dad had helped getting the track in shape and Rob must checked out every inch

For the year 2005 non-European riders are allowed to race the UCI European BMX Championships. That goes for the whole series in the Challenge and Challenge Cup series as well. It sounds like Dale Holmes is going to do the complete series but he's actually from the UK but living in the States. Who he can drag with him for a race or two is unknown but the races do count for the UCI ranking and that list is becoming more and more important towards the 2008 Olympic games.

Sometimes people we know have different hobbies next to riding BMX. 414's Shaun Scarfe has been riding Speedway forever but had a hard time finishing up a complete season because of all the BMX travel, riding and work. It looks like Shaun is doing well this year planning around the Speedway races that have been going on. He's even in the championship hunt. Go Shaun Go! Here's a few pictures and some comments from Shaun who is busy organizing the BMX part at the Bike Show in Coventry at the moment. Will we be able to celebrate his championship there?

UCI BMX NEWS MAILING 2008 BMX Olympic selection criteria’s The UCI Management Committee recently approved the BMX Olympic selection criteria’s, which will be included in part 11 of the UCI rule book. The Olympic selection criteria’s determines the qualified Nations, while the individual athletes will be selected by each country’s National Olympic Committee.

DC Shoes is putting on a pro only Sprint trails event March 19th 2005 in Sanger CA. at Randy Stumpfhauser's house. DC wants to support BMX racing, but is not in the market due to the pedal of choice today, so this event was put together where the pedals of choice will be flat. We would like to invite all Pro Riders to participate in this event. There is no entry fee and riders will have free food and drinks. This is an event that can’t be missed. So bring your skills out and make it happen. This is not your every day backyard event. The track has been manicured and revamped to be one of the most challenging, and fair courses today. It has been raining a bunch in California and its surrounding states. The race of this weekend in Las Vegas got cancelled due to the terrible track conditions. Last week in Phoenix it was a close call. Some riders pulled out of the race because they didn't want to get dirty or risk an injury. The race still went on. Out FATBMX column writer Robert de Wilde lined up on the AA gate and did fairly well (4th on Saturday and a win on Sunday). We sent him some questions to see how this mud race went for the Dutchman. Congratulations on the victory in Phoenix, what was the track like? The track was better than I expected it to be but it still was crappy. They covered the track and that helped a lot, but all the turns were soft, but they got a lot better through the day.

ABA Phoenix National, 19/20 February 2005 Where some racers opted not to get on the track at all because of the wet conditions, Robert de Wilde (Sunday) and Donny Robinson (Saturday) both pulled off a win in AA Pro. Current ABA Number one pro Bubba Harris scored some good points with 2 second places. Donny Robinson crashed in the main on Sunday and apparently has broken his collarbone. The Dutch MX season has started. After 18.000 liter of rain water were pumped off the track and the "Dirtwurx" crew of Mr. Van Vijfeijken himself spent numerous hours working on the track, the three-hour team race was a go. In zero degree (centigrade) weather and some snow/hale showers, the race wasn't for the wussies. A "Le Mans" style start saw Jarno Verhorevoort (Team Universal MX) holeshot the race with a sweet wheelie. Dennis Verbruggen (Team Van Gerwen) followed in hot pursuit and took over after a few laps. The Paul's Boutique team had a bad start with Jan-Willem Koppenens leaving the start grid in last place but soon caught a couple of riders before passing on the arm band to team mate Paul de Jong.

HARO's Warwick Stevenson spent 6 weeks teaching a girl how to ride a BMX bike for an MTV show called MADE. The result was that the spoiled unathlethic girl could barely make it around the track without crashing. It was actually good to show that BMX racing isn't that easy, even if you have personal training from the current UCI World Champion. Warwick received over 1000 E-mails via his website after the MTV Made show was broadcasted and enjoyed the time working with MTV. MTV also liked working with The Warlock and they're going to film an episode of MTV Cribs at Warwick's place soon. Time to clean up the house and stock that fridge!
