We ran a couple of funny party ads in DIGBMX and RIDEBMX over the last few months. Deamer Media Design has put some serious work in the next run of FATBMX ads. The advertisements follow the theme of the website layout so they will be easy to recognize. Keep an eye out for the upcoming DIG, RIDE, FreedomBMX and Reload Tips 'n Trix magazines. Hope you like the ads, we certainly do.
etnies Launches Ruben Alcantara's BMX Pro Model - the Terranea Lake Forest, CA - etnies just launched Ruben Alcantara's first BMX Pro model shoe, the Terranea, and it'll be in stores in early summer. Ruben is currently one of the most highly-respected riders in BMX, ripping both street and parks. His uncanny ability to seamlessly pull several tricks together into a line that truly flows sets him apart. Ruben's creative take on riding gives him a unique perspective, and allows him to pull obscure maneuvers on the parts of obstacles that no one else even considers.
This one has a strong Believe it, or not?! feel to it. Sometimes we hope to be incorrect about what we put on this site, that's definitely the case with this story on Kevin McNeal. Kevin was one of the early heroes of BMX. He was taller and stronger than most which resulted in factory rides, number one plates and winning a Trans-Am car for his efforts.
The "Where are the now?" question regarding the old pros also goes for Kevin. Stories of McNeal showing up at the Twin Palms trails with a few Corona's (he was the Corona kid after all) came up years ago but it got silent after that.
The latest we heard was that Kevin was stuck in a Mexican prison. The reason for that is somewhat unclear but when his brother visited him, he was far from the big man he used to be. It must suck being captured in Mexico so we say: Free Corona Kid!
BMX Plus! magazine used to run a comic called Radical Rick. Every issue had a new episode which was fun to read. Damian! was the artist that produced the BMX cartoons.
This page shows one of the early drawings of the comic before it went full colour.

What do you do when you've got too much money? You gamble.
What do you do when you want to be rich and don't want to work for it? You gamble. FOX Racing is now helping you out. They put up 5 slot machines at the Hard Rock in Las Vegas. If you've been to that place before you probably remember the Circle Bar (or don't). That's where the slot machines are located. It doesn't mean FOX is providing money to everyone, it's still called gambling, but the chance is there to get a good pay-check from the Fox machine without having to worry about sticker placement on your helmet and bike. Good luck!
Shimano put the best product on the market 22 years ago. The DX pedal. It had a different shape than anything else that was available at the time. The competition came from KKT, SR and also Skyway had a similar aluminium pedal on the market.
Shimano's DX pedal had a concave platform and used 12 unique stud pins for an amazing grip. The first of its kind. The revolutionary parallelogram profile made it easy to get your feet back on the pedals quick. The body was made from a solid one piece alloy. Shimano changed the BMX pedal industry with the DX model. Many copies would follow.
Side note: The DX pedal has more purposes than providing pedal grip. It is an excellent beer bottle opener and we have seen people use it as a knuckle-ring. Without axle for better movement, with axle for extra weight. Seriously.
A few months ago we ran an interview with the Condor on FATBMX. He mentioned his new site in there which is now online. You can read a lot of stories by Mat himself, go back in time and see what his plans are (Biography film and opening a Action Sports History/Creative Arts Museum next to the Mat Hoffman park in OKC). Maybe you'll get to see the Condor this summer in person at the CFB, BoomBoomHuckJam tour, Isreal, Nass, Donnington or the X-Games. Do you want to know how much Pamela Anderson paid for one of Mat's bikes? Click here to find out.

Bob Haro had an interview in the 1981 January issue of Action Now magazine. On the cover Bob is introduced as: HARO: BMX Magician. Trickster Turns Executive.
D.D. Morin did the interview and the pics are from the hands of Cassimus and Bradley. We picked a couple of quotes from the hostorical interview to share with you.
"At 22, Bob Haro is a businessman, trick rider, and an artist. He started as a professional doodler when he was young and matured into a cartoonist who could convert talent into dollars."
"He started his 20-inch escapades when he no longer could afford to race his motocross bike. His car gave him problems next, and he ended up on his brother's 20" bike for transportation. After busting the bike on a jump, Bob was forced to buy it."
