Donny Robinson has been racing BMX forever. Even in the expert classes, Donny was the small kid that was damn fast. When he turned pro a few years ago he had to race the guys that he had looked up to for so long. Donny tried hard but crashed hard a couple of times too. In fact, his crash at the 2004 UCI World's in Valkenswaard was one of the gnarliest crashes I've ever seen. He got up and kept on racing. That's Donny's attitude, never give up. His determination paid off in a pro title this year by winning the NBL Elite Cruiser #1 Title.
How do you feel about your win?
It’s obviously big for me. My ultimate goals are winning such titles. My whole career has been hard so I have to start somewhere and mentally this is good for me.
Randy Stumpfhauser gave you a good race all season, was there a rivalry there?
Battling with Stumpy all year was rough. He is strong mentally and physically, so I knew the NBL Elite Cruiser title was not going to be easy to win, especially since we went into the Grands tied in points. I believe we both ride fair with each other and have a great amount of respect for what we both can do, so it’s always a good race between us.
How does it feel taking over the title?
This time it would be my race and I would finish ahead of Stumpy. I am the first person to dethrone Stumpy for any cruiser title in some four years.
What about the ABA Pro Cruiser title?
I am currently leading in the ABA Pro Cruiser points as well and hope to have a sizeable lead going into the ABA Grands with that title chase and relieve some of the pressure that comes with the points gap. I know it will be a great race regardless.
What are your goals for next year?
I hope to be in this position next year in both ABA/NBL Elite Men title chase. Winning titles in both sanctions along with hitting huge races like UCI.
