Verde introduced a new product for the kids out there. A stylish balance bike for the 3-5 years old boys and girls. It has a unique design and some killer parts. FATBMX caught up with Verde's Cory Muth to get the scoop on the kick ass product.
What made you guys decide to make a push bike? Cory: We could see there was a bit of an opportunity to do something a little different than what the market currently offered. We also thought it would be fun to do something that had more of a BMX feel to it.
There is a lot of rubbish out there in this field. What makes yours better?
Cory: This bike is a pretty legit little BMX bike minus the drivetrain. It has an integrated headset, a real front load stem, pneumatic tires, high-quality paint and graphics, etc. It may be a bit overkill, but it's cool.
It's tough to compete in price with the mass produced toys from China. How much are yours retailing for? Cory: This bike currently retails for US $129.00. It's definitely priced higher than your average balance bike, but that's a really great price for the product we deliver.
The first bike experience should be a good one. What age are you targeting for this product? Cory: The Verde model has a bit higher seat (15") than others on the market. This bike is suitable for ages 3-5.
The design is unique and different from the other push bikes out there. Do you think there's room for pegs, brakes, or different models in this range? Cory: We really haven't thought about going that route. I think the main purpose for this bike is learning good handling skills and confidence. I'm not so sure kids of this age should be worrying about pegs. You should learn a table top before a tail whip, you know?
Kids might like different colours than adults. Did you check with kids before you decided on the colours for the kids bikes? Cory: I've actually watched a few buying experiences involving child and parent at my local shop. Color is definitely the #1 decision maker. In my experience it was the brighter, the better.
Do you have a follow up bike with pedals as a next step for the kids? Cory: Nothing is planned at the moment. Our next step after this model would be either our Cadet 18 or EON 18.
How cool would it be for a kid to win a "Strider race" on a Verde balance bike? Cory: Very cool. This style racing is gaining quite a bit of popularity lately...
Do you have any support programs going? Cory: Hopefully we'll get out to some races once racing starts up again and see what we can do for the scene.
Where can kids get some stickers? Cory: Send an SASE to: Verde Bikes, 2064 Integrity Drive North, Columbus, OH 43209.
