In 1981 at the age of 16 my life was changed when I saw this kid do a rock-walk on his BMX bike and from that day on all I could think about was how I could play, ride and make up tricks on my 20" bike. I lived to ride..to the beach..around town..in jam circles, and to practice my new found expression. Three years later I found myself riding for Haro Design as a professional BMX freestyler performing with
Ron Wilkerson and
Brian Blyther. We had some incredible times touring around the world form Dothan Alabama to Osaka Japan sharing our passion and talents on two wheels. Now over 25 years later we are creating a day to re-enliven those times. Today is May 6th, 100 days away from transforming this parking lot to a retro flash back extravaganza, of a whole day of incredible people that share the passion to motivate and inspire others through their performances.
The 12th annual Bike It is the venue for this to all take place, here in beautiful Ashland Oregon, now picture this, over in one corner there is a bunny hop contest, across from that is the kick-turn ramp
contest in honor of
Dizz Hicks, on the of side there is some Roller Skaters grooving to some old school rap, there is couple jam circles happening with flatland skaters and bikers busting out, with a variety of booths and venders along the edges with old school bikes, food, music and more. In the center stage there is drag races, a flatland show and a Haro reunion show with my old teams mates
Ron Wilkerson, Brian Blyther and special guest
Mike Dominguez, Kevin Martin on the MC. And how is that over there? you guessed it,
Bob Haro the man that has touched us all, is witnessing and take credit for creating this awesome sport so many years ago which continues to inspire riders all over the world.
The day will be full of riding jamming and just having fun. My name is
Dave Nourie I am putting on this event for the love of BMX and to help share some of the world that inspired me so many years ago. I must admit that at this point I have to raised another $5,000 to pull everything off, so now here is the plan, I am putting this out to the BMX community asking everyone who has even slightly been touch by anything to do with the BMX world to go to bikeit.info
and pledge at least $10 towards this cause, I challenge each and everyone of you to prove how powerful the BMX movement is and remember the first time you cleared that set of doubles, or pulled off your first decade or hit the 10' foot air, or saw your first air over 540 or whatever it was that got your blood flowing and your BMX jive alive.
Get your BMX jive alive..go to www.bikeit.info and pledge "Keep your BMX jive alive!"
I promise this event will inspire and uplift many. Stay tune for updates.
