National BMX Hall of Fame announces the Final-5 nominees for 2014

The National BMX Hall of Fame has just announced the Final-5 nominees for this year's Hall of Fame voting. After receiving hundreds of public nominations since January, the Hall of Fame committees have narrowed it down to the final five nominees. From here, a group of over 500 people (made up of previous Hall of Famers, BMX historians and Industry vets) will vote to decide on the final Inductees will be. This years' Inductees will be announced on July 1st.

While making it this far is a huge acknowledgement in itself, one lucky BMX legend in each of the five categories (Pioneer, Racer, Industry, Freestyle and Woman).

The National BMX Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled for Saturday evening, September 27th - in front of the Olympic flame, at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista. The festivities take place following the UCi Supercross World Cup finals,

which take place that afternoon. The event is also held in conjunction with the USA BMX Hall of Fame Nationals - which are held on Friday, Saturday and Sunday on the amateur BMX track.

Each year, USA BMX (The AMERICAN BICYCLE ASSOCIATION) inducts 5 new members to the National BMX Hall of Fame. They are: two legendary racers, one legendary freestyle rider, one influential Industry person, as well as one influential BMX woman. Special Recognition inductees may also be included.

Anybody can nominate some one for consideration for one of the five spots on the ballot (per category). The final-5 nominees are decided by the National BMX Hall of Fame selection committee and board.

Once the top-5 nominees (per category) are chosen, the voting begins. Over 500 "experts" from the BMX community, BMX press and industry - including past inductees, vote on who the final Inductee will be.
