The legends of BMX came together for an unforgettable event! Eddie Fiola, the “King of the Skateparks,” joined countless BMX influencers and racers to celebrate the release of Birth of the Freestyle Movement. From the mastermind behind Freestyle Magazine, Bob Osborn, and his iconic staff, to creative powerhouses Jeff Tremaine and Spike Jonze, the evening was packed with inspiration, nostalgia, and the pioneers who shaped BMX freestyle.
The dust has settled on an amazing day of BMX History celebration in Laguna Beach, and the remaining book inventory is open for sale. In addition, we offer the final inventory of the custom collaboration Vans - a shoe package - The BMX Wafflecup slipon featuring Bob Haro and Bob Morales - at an excellent $ rate.
USA shipping is FREE on all items - and everything ships from inventory.
For overseas customers, we are negotiating distribution options with sources in the UK, Germany, and Australia. Because the book weighs a hefty 7 lbs, shipping outside the United States is expensive.
The 1980's was such an important time in BMX history where freestyle was born and transformed into a culture that has lived on ever since! Today we are going over the most influential riders from the 1980's as "Fish" our favorite old school BMX historian gives us insight and knowledge about these BMX legends including Eddie Fiola, Mike Dominguez, Brian Blyther, Ron Wilkerson, RL Osborn, Mike Buff, Dennis "DMC" McCoy, Dave Nourie, Kevin Jones, Martin Aparilo, Mat Hoffman and more!
The Birth of the BMX Freestyle Movement Global Edition book launch and history celebration will be held on January 17th, 2025, at Rivian South Coast Theater in Laguna Beach, California. The Rivian Electric Vehicle Company will host us at its refurbished and iconic South Coast Theater on PCH in Laguna Beach. The Vans shoe company will also support the event. We have an incredible venue and a unique opportunity to unite the deep-rooted BMX community, which spans 50 years, in a way that hasn't been done before and may not happen again. The event will offer unlimited food and beverages, along with opportunities to meet and greet a large group of the books contributors. Registration to attend is mandatory due to limited space, and we expect spots to fill up quickly. Please note that registration on the day of the event will not be available. Let's kick off 2025 with something exciting to enjoy and anticipate!
This event will truly be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to celebrate the phenomenal story and culture of BMX Freestyle among legends and fans in a beautiful venue right in the heartland of the BMX story.
During the evening, we will celebrate Wizard Publications founder Bob Osborn, our Guest of Honor, for his deep contributions to BMX Culture.

What Happened to Thruster BMX?
What happened to Diamondback BMX?
Some highly progressive riders came through after the early 80s BMX explosion, the kids inspired by the King of the Skateparks and early Freestyle contests at the start of it all. The next wave was snapping at the heels of the big pros of the time. Joe Johnson is one of those guys, making a lot of noise on the east coast, Joe built his own quarter up against his moms house, mastered it then continued on to create many of his own moves.
