World Championship events always come with good parties. In 2004 I managed to squeeze in the BMX Freestyle World's in Cologne, Germany, the UCI MTB World's in Les Gets, France and the UCI BMX World Championship after party in Valkenswaard, The Netherlands. How do they compare?
It's all the same. People from all over get together. Because you ride a bike you already have a bond. Usually you haven't seen eachother for a while and it's great to catch up having a drink or two. Parties are a good release of anger if you did not win. Parties are also good to drink away the pain you suffered from a crash and parties are good to celebrate victories. Some people don't need any of that to have a good time though.
The BMX race afterparty in "downtown" Valkenswaard got pretty loose. People wandered across the street to do things that are not allowed in other countries and the dancefloor was packed. The bar do good business with riders spending their bonus money on drinks. Some riders will be pissed that we're putting these photos on FATBMX, but that's our style. As long as you have a laugh it's fine with us. FAT Papparazi in da house!
