The male favourites are among others Maris Strombergs (Olympic Champion from Latvia), Sam Willoughby (no. 1 on the world ranking list and from Australia) and Donny Robinson (from USA and the winner of the UCI BMX Supercross World Cup in Copenhagen 2008). The female favourite is Shanaze Reade from Great Britain, who will do her utmost to win the title for the third time in succession in Copenhagen, but Le Corguille (no. 1 on the world ranking list and from France) and Buchanan (from Australia) are strong competitors.
Europe’s best BMX track is located in Copenhagen These days, the BMX track in Copenhagen is being upgraded with a number of new, permanent facilities, for example two start ramps of five and eight metres, respectively. According to the International Cycling Federation, UCI, this upgrading makes the track the best in Europe.
“There’s no doubt that the Copenhagen BMX venue is the best BMX venue in Europe. With the investment of having two permanent start ramps, not only is it the most versatile BMX track (suited both for elite and youngsters) ever built, but it also show cases the future of BMX. This is what many tracks will look like 10 years from now! The UCI are excited to once again bring the BMX Supercross World Cup to the Copenhagen BMX venue, and of course the absolute highlight will be when the BMX World Championships return in 2011,” says Johan Lindström, BMX Sports Coordinator, UCI.
Sports Events Made in Denmark The UCI BMX Supercross World Cup is staged in Copenhagen for the third year in succession. The sporting set up is perfect and the organisers have the energy to further develop the side-activities attached to the main event. Chief Executive Lars Lundov of Sport Event Denmark explains: “In Denmark we emphasize the re-use of experience gained at previous events to make future events even better. We call it “Sport Events Made in Denmark”. Thus, this year’s World Cup will benefit from the experience gained in 2008 and 2009 and furthermore it is a stepping stone to the BMX World Championships we are hosting in 2011.“
Rock ’n’ roll and entertainment throughout the final day 8 May Beyond the BMX competitions, the final day 8 May offers the audience a great variety of entertainment: the rock band KISS KISS KISS, dj, freestyle BMX-show, competitions for the audience, free “try for yourself” for all kids and much more.
