before. In the first crank it just snapped. That was it, race over in the first pedal. Kind of happy it happened today and not on Saturday,” said Madill.
On Saturday, Madill will make history if he secures a national titles in elite making him the first rider to win four.
Second place in elite went to Billy Jolliffe (Newcastle) while Alex Cameron (Sydney) claimed third.
Gold Coast’s Cherie Simpson had to overcome an early lead by Bendigo’s Jaclyn Wilson-Thompson to take her second win of the series. With Simpson only able to take the series lead by finishing first today, the 19 year old surged in the final straight to claim victory on the line. “I just pedaled and cranked down out of it and shut her down and then just bolted for the finish line,” said Simpson.
After being an early leader in the series Simpson admitted it took some time to adjust to her new title, national series winner. “It still is wearing in on me but it feels amazing,” she said.
In the junior men’s race Matthew Dunsworth (Melbourne) had the series lead in his pocket before the final round today but it was Canberra’s Ryan Henderson who took the glory in an impressive ride to win. Dunsworth placed second while Joseph Costa (Cairns) claimed third.
Perth’s Kirsten Dellar led the junior women’s final giving her the overall series title while Lacey Oliver (Gold Coast) placed second. Third was taken by Melinda McLeod from Mackay.
Challenge classes race their national titles on Friday while the elites return to the track for their national title races on Saturday.
