Do you think you got enough practice time to get used to the track?
Donny: I think so. With only one practice specific day though, it was hard to get the track totally dialed, while not completing draining your energy.
Did you manage to jump everything you wanted to jump during the first session?
Donny: I was able to complete all sections of the track, however, not as cleanly as I would have liked.
How much harder is it for you to go from one at a time, to a full race of 8 people on the gate and then ride the track?
Donny: So much harder. Not only did you have to worry about yourself, but now, 7 other guys could make mistakes that could affect your ability to stay safe.
The wind definitely didn’t help with the difficulty of the track. Would it have been a different race without the wind?
Donny: The wind was just one more added factor we didn't need. The track was hard enough, let alone with varying winds. Perhaps with no wind, we could have focused more in another area.
What’s your opinion on the box jump? What needs to be fixed with that thing for the 2012 Olympic track?
Donny: The box jump is pretty cool. However, when one jump can make or break your lap, that is no good. Make a ramp riders can ride up just in case they don't have speed to jump on top, that would at least allow you to stay in the game somewhat.
How often did you crash?
Donny: I crashed one time, in the semi. It was my fault, I miscalculated the last jump on the third straight.
Did you wear extra safety gear at this Supercross World Cup?
Donny: I wear a chest protector now, but I have since I returned to racing in January.
39 casualties in Papendal. Do you think riders need to be selected instead of the fact that just any elite rider can buy a license and sign up for the World Cup?
Donny: I think any rider should be able to show up and ride if they choose. Just keep the experienced and inexperienced riders separated.
Do you think this Papendal track would be a lot easier to ride in two years from now?
Donny: No. There are subtleties about this track that make it dangerous. This isn't our first rodeo and we are well experienced, yet we thought this track was a bit much.
Ok, imagine you’re the track designer for the London Olympic track and you can make 3 changes to the track. What would they be?
1. No S turn.
2. Better box jump design that includes a ramp.
3. Shorter track length.
Any thanks to the sponsors or any people in particular?
Donny: Thanks to God, my wife, my family, and of course my supporters that have stuck by me through good and bad times. My sponsors that keep my dream alive: Hyper Bicycles, Monster Energy, Nike, at&t, Kicker, Tioga, Tektro, F1 Ceramics, Elevn, Alex Rims.
