Practice on Saturday started a little rough. I felt tired after spending the rest of the week in Copenhagen at the World Championship track. The track in Baarn was okay, but to small for the Elite Men. To make a clean lap I had to ride on 90% otherwise I overshoot most of the jumps. I was satisfied about the last few laps I made during practice, so that was a nice feeling.
On Sunday it was crowded than I expected and even the NOS (national sport television) was there to film. Warm-up started at 1:30pm, racing at 2pm. I easily qualified myself for the main event, but because this was my first race since my injury, each lap cost me a lot of energy and it was hard for me to recover between every race.
It was now or never to defend my national title. Unfortunately I had a really bad start and I was in 3rd position. No clean lap at all, because I couldn’t pass the guy in front of me. At the end I still had some energy left to pass him just before the finish line.
